Beagle blundlers

This is for anyone who was mildly interested in this recently.

The Spirit of mankind has made its mark on the surface of Mars.
We have continued our adventure of discovery towards the stars.
David and Goliath were thrown down towards the rocky surface.
One called back home, the other may be a burnt out edifice!

The Beagle has landed, but maybe into a ditch,
Due to the very slightest technical hitch.
Maybe the last bounce meant it ended up under
A rock it should have missed were it not for a blunder.

The signal designed a blur, sounded like a hiss.
Beagle's greatest hit, will have been a miss.
What bits fell off, when it came to the ground?
We may never know, if the pieces aren't found.

Did it come into land at the speed of a bullet?
Did they shove it out wrong, so now it's in orbit?
Did a Martian hand grab it and take it away?
Did a strong wind catch it and push it astray?

Did it have the wrong spin as it came to undock?
Did it burn up on entry like many a rock?
Did the parachute break coz it opened too late?
Did its many balloons start to over-inflate?

The designers cut every gram and saved many a Euro.
Pioneering minds surprised at how far they could go.
But despite the pooling of our great understanding,
This one was always going to be, a difficult landing.

Genius. McGonagall's ambitious spirit will not be quelled! Under_blunder was a memorable couplet.
