not wanting to be the one to pour cold water on our drinking plans but next saturday is valentines my friends. And although the single amongst us (i.e. me) would be available for much drinking merriment I have a feeling the others may not.

But then I could be wrong...

Holy Jeebus yes! im going to a masonic ball that night, ive got to start carring a diary.

12:11 / 12.02.04
a thought.

I'm in the mood to drink into the leap year so how about drinks the night of the 28th, moving through to the morning of the 29th. This day only happens once every four years so it stands that anything we do on the day doesn't count.

Simple genius in my opinion and most people will agree on with at least one of the words.

The Puck
18:48 / 12.02.04
i heartly endorse this product/service/idea and would encourge others to buy/use/go

Can i just welcome L Lewis, the more the merrier were a freindly lot youll find, and yes swish being of the most mentally together of us does tend to organise those annoying little things called "details".

this saturady im attending a "do" so wont be about

higuita
14:34 / 13.02.04
A couple of things...

1 Swish+mentally together?

2 Masonic ball?

Like you didn't want someone to ask...

I should be able to come out, I suspect. Although staying out all night is for you young people - a few brown ales and I'm ready for byebyes. Just ensure you don't go anywhere too Broad St or clean as I don't like poncy pubs. Swish may drink vanilla lattes but I don't.

Potguns
21:25 / 13.02.04
yeah yeah, sounds good can we make it more exciting than the hill though? I mean I know you all are relativley old but I think some loud music would do you all good!

Anyone up for re-living their youths????

:P Pot :P

mixmage
13:05 / 14.02.04
What you offerin'?

higuita
14:40 / 16.02.04
Too much time at the front of motorhead gigs makes loud music and conversation pretty much impossible for me - how about somewhere where there's a bit of both? Or, possibly, start off quiet and then move on to loud later?
I don't fancy reliving my youth anyway. I was young in the eighties. Imagine sitting in the costers and people keep putting whitesnake on the jukebox. See how you like it.
Not that there's much change. Young un's music nowadays is trousersnake, rather than whitesnake.

adamswish
14:54 / 16.02.04
I mean I know you all are relativley old

Someone is in danger of never leaving his youth as us "old farts" will beat him to death with a cunning weapon fashioned out of his dreads.

And as for the Costers I heard some 20-something on friday say he felt old last time he went there.

The quiet then the loud is a damn good idea (also a frankly scary description of most of our nights out too). And realistically speaking it's a toss up between Sanctuary and Academy isn't it.

Any thoughts?

I'm djing new wave/indust. at the lovely Royal George pub in Digbeth on the night of the 28th in support to the filthy noise trash punk rock of local bands High Score and the Mobsters..Its prob about £3 in and i'd meet you afters but i think its on till 2, but i may be mistaken...Welcome to come and pop in, but three squid may deter your eager beer seeking tendrils...
If its on till 11 or 12 i may go to either one of the dreaded water beer refinerys to get slightly tired and be sick mentally and physically........

The Puck
16:58 / 16.02.04
im all for quiet then loud, then quiet then medium then loud again, but yeah we have some of the most sidways minds in our dirty city meeting it would be a shame not too allow the booze to loosen our tounge and let the sparkling conversations delight each other, but we also have some of the best dancers, well dancer, well Mix figets a lot so i presume he can dance (i just presume its the dance energy leaking out) so it would be a shame not to have music.

what ever Swish says i agree with

14:45 / 17.02.04
what ever Swish says i agree with

When did our merry bunch of drinksters become a dictactorship and how come:

1. I got elected

2. No-one told me.

Good to hear from you knights, and don't worry there isn't much that can, how did you put it... deter your eager beer seeking tendrils. And this way we're heading in the right direction for the Sanctuary. Or even the Medicine Bar perhaps.

In town on Thursday so will have a wander and see what's on on that date, then let you guys know.

Okay from what I can make out at this early stage of the day we have three options for the night:

Academy - it's their Subculture night, hard rock and indie type stuff. Unfortunately from the gallery of images on their site the punters are a little young. Looking through there are even some that look younger than Pots

An off shoot of that is Coldrice at Bar Academy next door. The band Black Wire are playing, alongside Fused City Rockers DJing on the night. Always a laugh and fairly cheap in too.

The Sanctuary - No idea what's on of a Saturday night, but unless it's a gig night you are pretty much guaranteed fun and frolicks in whatever rooms are open.

Custard Factory - It's the second State of the Nation with bands and DJ sets. Headliners this month are Fonda 500. Never heard of them myself, but there's nopthing new in that statement. It's £3 on the door and starts from 8pm.

So there you go guys. FOur options for us to argue about for the next week. WHo says I don't give you anything

All very well, but where do we start? We need somewhere seedy obviously, but where the regulars won't try to kill Pots and Puck for being offensively young [for 'try to kill' I mean 'stare at and generally mutter about'].

Where in Birmingham would we find somewhere like that?

adamswish
15:29 / 21.02.04
That's the problem Y. All the great seedy pubs are being turned into poncy bars nowadays. Just look at Sputniks.

How about the Shakespeare then? It's fairly seedy and I don't know of anywhere better for that slight paranoria of people talking about you under their breath (unless you want to go the whole hog and risk life and limb in either of the basement bars along New Street whose names escape me at the moment. One of them's the Yard of Ale I think).

Unless we start out of town and head in for a change that is?

higuita
07:30 / 24.02.04
Anchor or the Victoria? - although one's real ale and the other's a bit gay. Or possibly the Jug of Ale. Tends to be full of young people, but might satisfy the youngsters. They don't have any brown ale though, which is a disappointment. My stomach can't take anything more exciting. Have they got any Mild on?

adamswish
16:23 / 25.02.04
okay seeing as we're running out of ideas and no-one apart from Y and me have come up with any suggestions how about this:

Start at The Troc between 6 and 7 Saturday night. This covers Y's desire for somewhere seedy without going the whole hog (and I think they have the specialist brews you're asking for too mate). It's also relativily central for us to wind our merry way through the night onto our final destination (whichever of the four options I mentioned above).

So that's sorted (unless someone can suggest somewhere better in the next few days, no I'm kidding, dictatorship rules this is the pub we're going to) and I'll see you all there
