I saw him play in London last year much to my misfortune. He came on late, he was blind drunk, he had a 12 piece band consisting entirely of his friends who appeared not to have learned to play any of the songs, or indeed tune their instruments.. he showed complete contempt for his audience, who nevertheless proceeded to grovel at his feet and cheer his every slurred word like a buncha losers. I was amazed and terrified that all these people seemed to take his songs at face value and be like "yeah, that really relates to my life..". I liked his record cos it was such a completely over the top parody of teenage boy angst.. I thought he was putting on the persona and milking that attitude for all the melodrama he could.. but to realise he's kinda serious about it, I mean, yikes.
So I'm holding the line at least. |
