I got it. I was only a kid then and it was really fucking zeitgeisty- 13 year old me was all about that alien abduction paranoid, men in black, all those grey alien faces turning up everywhere, X-Files, Vector 13 in 2000ad and the Roswell crash (Of course there was The Invisibles but I've only started reading that at the weekend), and you've got this nutcase barking out these fucking insane paranoid lyrics- the right album for the right time, if you're 13.
I liked it a lot- some of the lyrics are frankly embarrasing and it "borrows" from Smashing Pumpkins in a few places (this is of course no bad thing) but I'll listening to it now and it's really evoking when I was 13- moving into a new house, playing Super Streetfighter II on my Mega Drive, collecting Judge Dredd- Lawman of the Future and being wowed by Chris Weston's art for Cannon Fodder II. Which is what great Pop is all about, right?
S'better than fucking Kula Shaker at any rate. |
