The Exposure site, based in the UK, has a fairly bustling community on their forums, and the site itself contains a wonderfully thorough and concise compilation of useful articles on a wide range of relevant subjects - some are more inspiring than they are useful, but every little bit helps.
The links page @ cyberfilmschool.com has a whole host of links to independent film communities on-line - do a browse and see what matches your style. There are also a wealth of useful resources there besides for independent writers, directors, producers, etc.
And if you're in the US, I highly recommend joining IFP (Independent Feature Production) - they have a ludicrous amount of resources for aspiring and accomplished filmmakers alike, including discounts on gear purchsases, rentals, and services like production insurance and catering (the discounts are nothing to scoff at, either, they can make a huge difference in a project's budget). Not to mention screening rooms, consultations and mentoring programs, and a constant stream of workshops, speakers, and events. Well worth the annual fee if you're within casual travel distance to any of their facilities - they have locations now in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, and Seattle and they're growing all the time. |
