Astral Projection: The Rope Method

I tried to post this in one of the pre-existing astral projection threads, but it didn't appear at the top of the magick forum, so here it is again.

I've been attempting to project for a while using the Robert Bruce "Rope" techniques, and I've been getting something, but haven't been able to make the break into full projection. What I do is enter a light trance state, and then attempt to use touch visualization to climb the rope out of my body. As I do this, I get this really intense pressure on my head, and start to sort of vibrate. It gets tougher to stay focused on the rope as the pressure gets more intense. Usually, I'll reach this point, where I'm basically blacked out, and there's the pressure is really intense. I have the feeling that if I could maintain the rope while in this state, but the pressure is too intense, and I lose it, and go out of the state with a really intense flow of energy, and return to my regular state.

So, has anybody used the Bruce method successfully, and if so, does the beginning of it sound like this? It feels like I'm getting close to being successful, but I'm not sure if I'm sort of doing what I would expect to be happening, and am in fact getting nothing.

Well no, is the quick answer to your question (ie. I haven’t used that method). It sounds like you’re having some interesting stuff happen so who knows?

I tried to induce Out of Body stuff for a bit. A lot of the time when I fell asleep I used to have episodes where my mind was awake but my body wouldn’t wake up. I could sometimes open my eyes in this state but that was about it. I could often move my limbs and “feel” them moving but I when I looked at them, from my paralysed positon, they were staying still. I assumed what was happening was I’d engaged whichever part of your brain produces kinaesthetic sensations, while it was someone disconnected with actual movement due to sleep. I then used to “feel” my way out of my body and round the room but what seemed to be happening was that I was actually going into a dream/astral space, rather than genuinely being out of my body. So kind of a failure, but a very useful springboard for astral exploration as you’re a lot more “out of it” than normal but more conscious than in dreams.

I was flicking through a book which mentioned OBE’s the other day actually, and the author said “the experience seems to be different for everyone. Pete Caroll gives an interesting anecdote in the back of LIber Null and Psychonaut on how he induced it. I tried the method he mentions for a bit, but it didn’t work for me. Oh, and a few friends have told me they have OBE’s on Ketamine, but maybe this is a bit too extreme!

i had some success a few years back with OBE's, i tried a few differnt techiniques but the one that worked best for me was an amalgamation of them.

the vibrations would indicate that your almost there. I reckon the vibrations are sorta like you trying to leave your body, and your body holding you in, its gonna take a whole lotta will power. Once you reach the vibrations stage try a different techinique for leaving, like you floating upwards or everything else sinking or imagining yourself as a helium baloon floating upwards. theres plenty of techiniques out there, just experiment and find what works for you

Has anyone had the , best i can describe it , falling upwards sensation . From a v relaxed point your just drift within yourself and it feels like falling but oddly as if in an upwards motion.

Like PatrickMM , ive had no success in getting out though !
