We're experiencing quite a cold snap all across Canada at the moment (well, most of it). Where i am yesteday's high was -31c. Now, we're no stangers to cold winters, but this is pretty nasty. Some weird primal Jack London-esque part of me relishes taking on the elements, but I'm glad this sort of thing doesnt tend to last to long. My resolve weakens after a week of temperatures this low. So whats happening in your neck of the woods? Blazing heat? Torrential rain? Sandstorms? Frogs falling from the sky?

it's quiiiite c-c-cold here in the american midwest right now, in the single digits farenheit with the wind chill, although i know "farenheit" doesn't mean much to a lot of you here. there's a lot of snow on the ground, which is kinda pretty but a bitch to slug through.

i am never clicking on this thread again, as i have no desire to read about warmer climes right now. oh, no i don't.

finally i'd like to say that i blame the VERY cold weather on people who bitch about *any* cold weather. it's like god is saying, "oh, yeah, you think 45 degrees is cold? i'll show ya! bwahahahahaha!"

Not as cold as it has been, but everything's covered in annoying powdery snow, and the wind is picking it up and throwing it everywhere in clouds.

I also live on a steep hillside, and it's hell going up and down streets; thankfully, I don't have to very often, I just walk along a flattish street to get to and from the station.

You can see a picture of it if you like.

Really nice. Really, really nice. Barcelona doesn't seem to do much in the way of winter; we've gone from a relatively mild autumn to the first blossoms of Spring in the two or three months since it got a bit too chilly to go swimming. It rained a bit yesterday, but now the sky is a deep blue shading to violet, with little wisps of white clouds drifting across at intervals...

Mmmm. The toasty-warm glow of three-thousand or so people all hating me at once. Think I can do without this jacket now.

Pretty bracing in London at the moment. Not that I've been outside today. Oh no.
Currently a fraction above freezing, and it looks like this.

Quite pleasant here too, really. It's a bit nippy, but nothing like the howling arctic gales we were promised. And there's only been a little sneeze of snow. It fell during the night and was pretty much gone by morning.

In the last hour we've gone snowtastic in (north) London. People are cancelling plans and over-reacting all over the shop.

After three weeks in Canada and skiing in -30 I too thought that Londoners were over-reacting to today's inch of snow ... but then the bus I was on skidded on the ice and crashed into a building, smashing windows on the top storey (most people were fine I think but I could hear someone screaming) and I had to walk a mile home on shoes that might as well have been waxed, baby steps on black ice, clinging to railings all the way ...

.. and I realised that it's not the weather that's the problem, it's our total fucking inability to prepare for or cope with it in this bloody country. One inch of snow and a cold snap that turned it to ice, and people are getting hurt and probably killed on the roads. No reason. No clue. What the hell's wrong with us?

Well I'm sitting in the office SW of London. My backs to the window with the sun shining through, warm on my neck. I don't care about the glare on the monitor, just relishing the UV beaming in from a beautiful blue sky. Last night we had about a quarter of inch of snow that fell very quickly. In other words enough to cause traffic chaos but not enough to make a snow man let alone go sledging!

Annoyingly mild here lately, actually. Thanks for asking.

It's supposed to be in the high 30's - low 40's (celsius) this time of year in Adelaide (South Australia) but today it was only about 25 and tomorrow it's only going to get to about 22. Disgustingly perfect and easy to take weather we've been having this summer.

So much for global warming.

It's like a big stupid windy frozen sandstorm. The snow that fell last night was very fine, and very dry, so it's drifting everywhere. Stupid snow.

I spent 7 hours clambering over the remnants of Southern Ontario's snow storm today to read meters. I'll be doing it again tomorrow, and every day from now til thaw. I fucking hate this weather.

Zoom. (...returns to lurkdom)
