i made a bit of a mess with that last link:
And Did we Mention Our Disco
Quite different to the soul option. They play a lot of alternative retro-styled disco/punk type stuff. Erm.. their flyer labels their likes as:
"the freshest sounds in town: punk, funk, no wave, rock and roll, fucked up house, sleazy electro or mutant disco. It's mixed up music for independent human beings."
They've played completely different stuff during the times I've been, though. One night seemed to be dedicated to current Gang of Four-influenced New Yorkers, another night was full of 80s punk, another night was mostly trendy electronica I hadn't heard before.
They've had 2 many DJs and The Rapture as guests.
The place is very small, though, and tends to attract early queues.
Sometimes the crowd is very friendly, sometimes it's been snotty media types turning up for the guests.
Can't say what it's like now cos I haven't been in many months. |
