Elbow- Pull Your Ribs Apart And Let The Sun Inside

Have we really gone this long without extolling the wonder that is Elbow? I've been listening to their albums since Christmas and am impressed with their Spiritualized-gospel meets The-Beautiful-South's-good-bits in a cool northern bap sound. Am I alone on this one? Is 'Fugitive Motel' one of the most plaintive and beautful songs produced thus far this decade?

The song Fallen Angel sounds like the Super Furries and is really good. Still haven't bothered listening to the rest of the album though. I really should.

Elbow also played. Man, they were fucking nasty - the prog-rock of Yes with some Coldplay album filler thrown in.

Nail, Head - BANG!

Sorry guys, but to me they just sound like the worst music ever. Had the misfortune of seeing them play once and was bored to tears.

Although they seemed like nice chaps, so I'll try not to hold it against them.

I would agree that this last album is beautifully written with massive evocative words and imagery. I know where fugitive motel is and plan to retire there soon. And I do wish my ribs would get pulled apart to let the sun inside. The music itself is a little too derivitive but I am addicted to it all the same. Have listened to it at least once a day while working for months and months. But I still hate pop music.

Yeah, but Everett True only likes music when it's punchy and aggressive, he calls everything that's slow 'prog' FWIR.

"I used to think I hated Elbow but then I realised I'd been confusing them with the Norweigan band Erŝe, it turned out I'd been confusing my Erŝe with my Elbow."

I bought the new album Leaders of the Free World last week and didn't listen to it until yesterday, I was afraid it wasn't going to be as good as the first two albums but it stands up as well, and may actually be my favourite album of the year.

So I say again, is there really no-one else on Barbelith that recognises the bruised majesty of Elbow?
