One of the most sturdiest trees growing in the continental mass so of course oak would have alot of significance esoterically. There's a famous old fable called THE BATTLE OF THE TREES but I can't remember it at all. Y'know stuff to do with stories and the different rune systems and that, different alphabets, etc... One of the best trees to climb up, pisses all over Ash and Elm. I would say that Oak is the mighty king of the woods - great fer keeping in warmth - almost like coal and peat! Suspect this is not thee answer that is expected - but what thee fuck!!!!! Good wood fer pantacles, runen, etc...... Expect if you wanna tap into the Oak spirit - you should climb up an Oak tree and mediate upon a good strong branch to gain some sorta shamanick gnosis!!!!!

I seem to recall that oak is a tree and strength and wisdom, whereas ash is the world tree and much more symbollically linked with Odin. Could be wrong.

You hear a whole lot more about oak leaves than, say, ash leaves, though. I wonder why that is?

Wasn't there a German badge/medal during WWII that was an oak leaf?

Found the book. Apparently Oaks are the last to produce leaves in spring but the last to lose them in the autumn - thus they are symbols of endurance.

From the Druid Tradition by Philip Carr-Gomm;
From Winter to Summer Solstice it the king of the trees. Because it attracts lightening it is associated with the thunder gods Taranis & Thor. It is also linked with royalty. It is very long lived.

Also
Herne the huntsman was found hanging from an Herne's Oak in Windsor Great Park. There is Queen Elizabeth's Oak in Greenwich Park. Charles the first was supposed to have hidden in one whilst one the run from Cromwell's troops.

Oak is significant to the Navy because the ships hulls were mostly oak, hence 'Hearts of oak are our Ships'. Not sure why the oak appears in some on the rememberance days poppies.

Above all they are wonderful trees both in Summer and winter especially when silhouetted against a setting sun.

Now I will wait to see if I get flamed for miss using a semi colon
