Peter Pan

Anyone seen the new Peter Pan? I thought it was stellar. Its very pretty, but more importantly, actually made an attempt to stay loyal to the original story, including voiceovers from the text giving it a strong fairy-tale feel to the lot. Tink is a complete bitch. And they had the Indians, too. It was interesting how they did the "I do believe in fairies" part, too. It was like a big spell that kept infecting people. The magic in general was really neat. It was clear that Neverland was an extension of Pan. It was his realm, changing with him.

What about the controversial "Wendy & Peter have to make out" thing? Is it a plot point or just a little romance between the two of 'em? Why is Tink a bitch, incidentally? (cause she's jealous of Wendy?) How sexual is the whole thing? It looks really cool - I definitely want to see it at some point soon. And I hear Capt. Hook kicks ass & the kid who plays Peter is great.

Having experienced the vulgarities of Captain Hook hypnogogically before drifting off to sleep and the corporate ethics of the Disney advert playing around on terrestrial TV - I won't be takin my kids to it!!!!! Besided I'll never forgive them fer goin against Eris in the latest Sinbad - THE BASTURDZ!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never interested me when I was young anyhow - what about the Jungle Book - now that's mer like it!!!!! Captain Hook and the McEwan's export man - one and the same!!!!!

I saw it and really really loved it. Basically, I agree with everything cusm said. Tink was totally evil in a cute pixie kinda way. Hook was also fantastic and I was going in with Dustin Hofman's Hook as a template for my expectations. I do have a question though, does Hook fly in the book or is this something they added. I don't remember Hook ever flying. Anyway, the visuals were beautiful and the flight scenes were amazing.

And HunterWolf, it isn't sexual at all.

"Wendy & Peter have to make out"

Its a plot pointy fairy tale kiss, with much special effecting. Not really sexual at all, I thought. More magical. It was her "hidden kiss" she gave him. The romance had more to do with the struggle of remaining a boy vs the adventure of growing up, Peter refusing to admidt his feelings least he betray his nature, and Wendy sulking for it, the temptress.

As for Tink: "Now Fairies aren't all bad, its just that they are very small, and only have room for one feeling at a time..." Those top of the list being jealous and scorned, she's a mean little fairy.

I loved it. God what a pretty movie. I thought the romance was mostly subtext from the book being played up, and being the sentimental lass that I am, I thought it was sweet.

Cool, I'm psyched for this. I knew the nay-sayers were making a big deal out of nothing with their outcry over the Wendy-Peter romantic elements.

Also, do you mean Dreamworks SKG, Spielberg's company, Mr. Tricks?

Saw this on DVD the other week, and it is quite possibly the best film I have ever seen in my life. And it's on ITV1 tonight, at 6pm, and you should all watch it! (It clashes with Doctor Who but those of you who are better at tech than me might be able to video one of them or download it or something.)

I bought this film on DVD a couple of years ago, having meant to watch in the cinema. So I put it in a travelling bag and forgot all about it. I rediscovered it by chance this evening and watched it.

It's so good, so beautiful. It's magic.

Yes, Tink is hugely jealous, but she's is only so mean because she's only got "room for one feeling at a time." Sometimes she's "all good." And the boys: "Wendy lady, for you we built this house ... Please be our mother."

Hook's gorgeous.

"Hook always carried upon his person a dreadful poison, ... A mixture of malice, jealousy and disappointment, it was instantly fatal and without antidote."

Do see it if you haven't yet.
