Money money money

I'm two days into a seven-day working to help dig myself and my family out of our financial ditch (details after the working is over, if anyone is interested), and I'm wondering if any of you have ever done any kind of magickal stuff to increase (or remediate) your cashflow?

I know this type of thing flies in the face of much Ceremonial or "Spiritual" Magick, but (along with Love Spells, Healing, and General Good Luck) it is probably one of the most popular aims of folk-magick. Anyone out there burning green candles or carrying "money charms?" Any gamblers?

I'm mainly just curious, so even if you've never done a money-oriented working yourself but your grandfather carried his "lucky silver dollar" wrapped in a $2 bill whenever he went to the track, or whatever, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks!

~L

(Oh, and big thanks - and copious sweets - to GEK for the much-needed pre-holiday boost! *lifts a mug of eggnog to Our favorite ethereal reptilian*)

Check out Dave Lee's "Money Magick," I think it's still in print. There's some pretty good pointers in there for approaching money magickally. If in doubt, just remember that silver and gold have been set at the same fixed value ratio of 13:1 since the beginning of like Western civ, these being the Alchemical relations of the moon and sun. Yep, money just as much o that hoodoojuju as everythin else.

Way way back in the day when I was still trying to convince myself that sigils worked I tried a few for small amounts of money. Most or all of them worked, if I recall.

The other day I magicked a quarter out of my city when I had to make a phone call. It took ninety minutes of aimless strolling and psychic cajoling before I finally gave up, went into a phone booth to make a friendly prank call to this 800 number that always makes me laugh, and (of course) found a quarter there. Or maybe I just got lucky?

Since then I've made a few sigils for more ambitious or generic money magick (more so than "I will find five bucks" for instance), but all but one came out looking so spiky/scary/evil I think I've got to re-do them while thinking very hard about why money scares me so much. The one sigil that wasn't scary-looking ("I WILL FIND MONEY") looked like kind of a happy fun dog-thing with a dollar sign sticking out of its head. That one I'm going to use. ^-^

And that's everything I know about money magic.

Well, my money-conjure has been extended somewhat, due at least in part to the slowest-burning pillar candle I've ever worked with. I think this one is going to last well beyond the 7 days and take us right up to the full moon (which works, I suppose).

Amongst my Christmas-giftery, my mother-in-law ended up giving me some lucky hand root, a $2 bill and three leap-year Mercury-head dimes - all good for money spells (the lucky hand root is especially good for "dexterity-based games of chance," so it's too bad I'm not a craps-shooter...). Fun in store?

one of the first spells I've tied to charge when researching about Magick was the Momentum Elixir [or something like that]: it involved charging a simple standard sygil while visualizing yourself in wealthy situations, but it was good to do it on a Thursday [the day of Jupiter], under a blue light and drinking your sperm. can't say it didn't work.

lately I charged this one I did for myself, juxtaposing symbolisms, to no result yet.

OK, sorry to sound so pedestrian, but...you drank your own sperm? I guess that would be a very powerful magickal charge since it's so shocking and unusual to the psyche...? (although I think I have to say I'd never do it, too bizarre for me. then again Crowley might have done that all that time)

V09SOH, what was your source for the Momentum Elixer ritual?

Is drinking your own sperm shocking? Obviously I've led a very sheltered existence.

well, I actually did drink my sperm. don't know how many times I did the ritual [it's been a while] but I guess at first I had it pure, then with some Coke and booze on a glass - a Cuba Libre, maybe? =)

it did help that at the time that I was experiencing new sexual... situations [and having some of my fantasies fulfilled in bizarre ways]. but by 1999 who wasn't? maybe this deserves a theard of its own: was it a phase we all go though in life or was the end of last century specially related to sex - maybe because some thought the world might actually end? I don't know yet.

ANYWAY, you're able to find online - probably in sites about bukkake - how to make it not taste bad [because taste and smell varies with your diet, in case you don't know]. I wouldn't do a ritual in which I had to drink blood, piss or eat shit but saw no major deal with my own sperm. I wouldn't drink other guys', though.

of course there's some symbolic impact as, you know, you can relate it with the seed of life and other less obvious meanings. I saw it also as drinking my own life back and re-energizing, since that's more or less what happens when we labour to pay our bills. call it a self-transfusion.

so much for thread rot...

From wealth sorcery to bukake in 9 posts. I wonder if some barbelith thread rot precedent has just been set?

Ahem. Apologies for my contribution to thread-rot. Money magick, I'd have to admit, is something I don't see myself as being very good at. The approach I've tended to take is that of "encouraging" income to flow along already established/newly established 'routes' i.e. making more money as a result of doing stuff. Mostly by means of using sigils.

I'd also say that I seemed to be "better" at this kind of sorcery when I was living below the poverty line than nowadays, although since I managed to get a good job, I haven't really done any money magic. Perhaps I will try in 2004 tho', as we have all been informed by management that there will be no pay rises this year.

This was going to be a PM to Talks to Strangers, but I figured finding an appropriate dead thread and seeing if anyone had anything new to say might be a good idea.

I was wondering if I could pick your brains about money magick. Namely, how to get better at it? Money is and has been the biggest ongoing problem in my life and I've had no success recently turning my Work towards acquiring more financial stability... or emergency money for that matter.

When I was but a wee magician person, I had the Money Magick = Ye Darke Artes force fed to me constantly and I think it stuck.

There was a period of my life while I was doing pretty good with scrounging emergency money from lotto tickets and recycling the losing tickets into more "luck" but lately I've just be absolutely pants at $$$ magick of any kind.

And I kind of need to turn my life around financially and stop allowing this aspect of my life to bottleneck the rest.

Any advice?

I'd suggest you figure if you really want the money, or if it's the stuff money can get you, or the lifestyle, that appeals. Money can look pretty all on its own, but six thousand in Confederate bills ain't going to get you very far. That question out of the way, or at least focused down, all I can really suggest is to try applying the methods you'd use to get anything else, and carry on in the directions that seem to work. Thinking of it as money, that is, fetishizing the thing, as always seemed to make it less readily attainable for me, anyway. When it's just stuff, even though I know I really want it or could use some it works out a little better.

Can't help ya, Mongoose. Wish I could. I think that when you're lost in the woods of such long-term, deep-rooted conditioning the only way out is through; you've just got to keep striving, keep at it, and tackle the challenges as they emerge. Eventually you'll get there.

Part of it is learning to let good things into your life, not rejecting them because you feel they're undeserved. Wealth in the general sense, that which makes life good.

Because of how I work the approach I've taken is to try and tie it in with my spirit-work, attempting to create relationships with certain Personages who deal with wealth and abundance, principally the Goddess Freyja. (Who just tried to burn down my house. Make of that what you will.)

Decadent:

What do I want? Enough money to pay my bills, eat healthy and have a little bit of spending cash in case of emergencies. I'm currently in the process of saving up for a big move (I can't take this Indiana stuff anymore.) and every month has had some sort of medical emergency or something that has forced me to empty my savings back out. I have no safety net and no resources to fall back on so the constant living on the edge of fiscal ruin (my life for the last...errr.... 6 years?) is a constant source of stress.

Talks:

Thanks. I'll keep plugging away at it. I'm finding that a lot of my problems of late have a "the only way out is through" vibe. Grrr.

Thanks.

Ironically enough, in my day job I'm a banker.

Interestingly enough, seconds before checking out this thread I was just describing how I've been living on the pvoerty line for the last five years - on the other hand, I'm never without a roof over my head, food to eat and I seem to get bought far more drinks than I could ever possibly deserve. It's like I always have enough to survive but like you IMS I would like more security.

I said this on the 'Making Magic to Sell' thread about two days ago, and though it might be relevent here...

Something I did recently in a group was try talking to the spirit of money, first doing automatic writing on how I felt towards it, then on what it has to say to me. ... I think that perhaps working with the spirit of money is a good idea given the amount of problems people have with money, but thats a general thought.

Doing some work with the Spirit of Money still sounds like a good idea to me, especially if you don't have a specific pantheon you work with, or if your problem is with your relationship to money itself. Doing this might help your relationship with money/money-energy, both mentally and energetically.
