I'm a bumping this 'cause I'm curious.

If I can snag transport I'll go to an open circle next sunday 'cause it's nice to be around the festive pagans. On the Solstice I'm trying to wrangle the close tribe members for some feasting and present exchanges and general badassery. And the required story telling of course. Leave presents and bows outside for Ailim.

The genetic herd will be gathering for Xmas ala Yule on Xmas Eve (with not a Christian in the house) and I will be presenting the spawn of my sibs with strange magical artifacts and spinning tales of eldritch horror. It's tradition.

I'll be burning some clocks for the solstice then travelling to the parents for over-eating and drinking and watching films, probably walking on the beach etc.

I'm totally stealing it for our party. Sure it will only be a stationary event but that's just too great not to adopt.

Happy Winter Solstice to ya!
We'll be pissing off the neighbors with our festive mini bonfire and drunken yowling tonight for certain.

Big ol' pot of vegan pumpkin cajun chowdah, veggie roast vindaloo taters, and chipoltle black pepper fudge brownies a long with assorted fine cheeses and much red wine.

The solstice sprites have been very kind to me as I scored the last tasting bars of spicy chocolate for my bro-in-law AND while trudging home at lunch laden down with wine/cheese/ large framed giftie one of my pals stopped to offer me a ride. Made it back from lunch in quite reasonable time as well!

Happy New Year.

and all that.

I want to do something to honour my own occult traditions, but I have my family over and they are non-practitioners. Quite frankly, I just want the family thing to work, but I think honouring my own beliefs in important.

Luckily, current winter holiday traditions are so steeped in token pagan/occult values that it is possible to at least pay some homage to those traditions, but it is still all so cheesy, at best.

I used to celebrate Yule with a group of like-minded folks and we would put on a vaudeville type shows for one another, with everything from skits and stand-up to belly-dancing and striptease. I miss that bunch.

Well the burning of the clock was a huge hit with everybody stuffing wishes inside of it before it was placed on the fire. I'm sure we annoyed the hell out of the neighbors laughing and carrying on late into the night, though not too late.

Oh, sounds lovely. I am glad you had a great Solstice, xk. I am struggling to maintain my minimal daily practices with my family at my place.

My son and myself did some dancing and pulled a Goddess card each, but if I started any celebrating too much last night, my Mother would think I am a kook. I am feeling a little stifled, but I did invite them. She already thinks the shrine to the Goddess is a bit weird.

I had myself a quiet, introverted Solstice celebration - just a small candle-burning ritual. I charged a solar grid for my bedroom, since I'll be doing a lot of self-healing work there. My room feels all warm and humming-like now. It's nice.

I also had some wild dreams afterwards, one of which I think I may take over to the Stupid Questions thread.

Hope everyone had a happy Solstice.

A Solar grid? That is interesting, Setsuna. Could you elaborate on that?

Solar grid, sure. It's just a simple crystal grid, really, set in the four corners of the room (I'll try to keep this short, as I'm prone to waxing on endlessly about the stones and crystals I work with. I get the occasional accusation of fluffiness, but I don't care. They're powerful tools, and not fluffy if they're used in a serious manner. But I'm not defensive about it or anything. Noooo, not me).

So, yeah - a crystal point in each corner, and in this case as the focal piece, I had a clear fluorite octahedron with pyrite inclusions with me at my altar in the center of the room.

I anointed everything with a solar ritual oil beforehand, and then charged the grid by drawing down and visualizing a golden light similar to the pyrite, with all lines connecting the points to the center octahedron.

This all took place within the course of the ritual, which had parts I won't bother getting into, since it doesn't really matter in terms of set-up and execution.

So now the room has a very discernable solar feel to it now, and my head feels a little light when I first enter - usually a good sign. I'll have to maintain the grid here and there (something I'm usually a bit lazy about), but it'll be worth it as I think it will help with the work I've got coming up.

Happy Hogswatch all.

I shall be eating, drinking, partying with friends and family. I wish you the same (depending in your friends and family).

I really like that, Setsuna, and thank you for describing it for me. What a great idea for magicians who perform the Rosy Cross ritual. That feeling you describe, Setsuna, seems quite similar to the feeling of that ritual.
