I saw this independent German film called "Decoder" by a Klaus Maeck (I think that's how he spells his name?) - it was brilliant, had William Burroughs and FM Enheit (from Einsturzende Neubatten) in it. It's about people using cut-ups and tapes to cause chaos in fast-food establishments and the streets. It also had Genesis P Orridge saying - "Information is like a bank - Our Job is to rob that bank!!!!" I think it was featured heavilly in the Psychick Terrorism Vague annual, that Tom Vague in London used to do. Just wondering if anybody has seen it?????

It's that long ago that I can't even remember but I think I've seen it. I think someone lent me the video of it about 10 years ago, but Ican't remember any details which is no help to anyone! There's a big article about in old 80's countercultural magazine Vauge (Issue 18/19) - you might still be able to get copies of this from Ak Press etc.

Top stuff!!!!! I saw it at the Festival of Plagiarism in 19990 at an art gallery in Glasgow - I had the booklet with it for ages, but lost it at the same time as alot of other stuff. For years I had the cover as a poster for years, I'll always remember the collage of the frog - that sticks in my mind! There's a small company based around the north who punt out a subliminal tape unit called New Age Electronics (they're always advertised in the back of Fortean Times) - could you imagine doing a "gypsy switch" on a Muzak tape at Wimpy's hohohohoh. Well erm I s'pose the Tape Unit is s'posed to be for self-hypnosis but what the heck!!!!!!!

is this the one with gysin where he/they are sort of wandering around london/new york/paris and the soundtrack/dialogue's all like

'yes.hello.yes.so nice to see youello.yes.hello.so nice to see you.hello.yes.so nice to see.yes.hello.yes.hello'

like that? cos if it is i've seen it and it's mental. just watching it restoked the belly-flame of the previous night's mushrooms and tranced me right out. would like to see it again.

saw that about 6 years ago, rented it from the local avante garde video store. i sure would like to get a copy of it. it would be more intersting watching it now that I know a bit more about all of those people. i watched it amidst final exams, all I can remember is a blur of faces. . .

No, I haven't, but I think "beats" are staging some sort of resurgence--I've seen references to them all over since I started working on my own beat-related project about 10 days ago. Are the Beats the Zombies of 2004?

I'd love to get a hold of a copy of it since I saw it at an alternative art event. Didn't know the beats (whoever they are?) are making a comeback - is this the new beatniks???? Don't know if Gysin is it - wasn't he in "Sewers Open Fire" or whatever it was called that was also directed by Klaus Maeck?????? Did a small websearch on Maeck but didn't amount to much haven't used Coppernic yet though. I expect soon there will be a new movement of non-conformity and subcultural resistance, before it gets rebranded into Popular Culture and the ever present Spectacle.

Er, sorry, I was being all bubbleheaded. The Beats were the writers that inspired the "beatnik" fad, the "big three" being Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs, and I think they're making one of those synchronistic-zeitgeist-manifestations or whatever, as zombies started to about this time last year. Watch for Greg Kennear to wear a soul patch to the Oscars or something.
