Really just getting into these guys with a FORCE, and I have to say I love "Out Of Control", as well as "Get Yourself High"...

I put it to the Barbs: what are the absolute greatest Chem Bros songs of all time? I would love to make a CD with all the best of their stuff, so pls, humble/enlighten me.

My personal fave is Three little birdies down beats or whatever its called off the first album. The one that bleeds into or out of Song to the Siren, which I also really like. I'm also quite partial to Life is Sweet. And yes the first album is my favourite, quite obviously...

I second the mention of 'Life Is Sweet' - I was amazed and horrified to discover, on buying the Chems' new Singles 93-03 compilation, that this song is missing, despite being being not only one of their best singles but also massively influential. It's the first of their "draft a well-known indie singer to do their thing over our beats" tracks, and arguably the most effective (certainly better than either of the Noel Gallagher collaborations).

'Block Rockin' Beats' is another one that's kinda hard to hear with fresh ears now that so many people have ripped it off (and arguably it was also the blueprint for the superior 'Hey Boy, Hey Girl'), but it will always have a special place in my heart... And in fact I listened to it the other day and decided it would still sound great dropped into the middle of a DJ set.

And all of Surrender. It's their most solid LP, basically because having won over the indie kids the Brothers decide to take them all out raving, in a full-on Mitsubishi-mashed Gatecrasher stylee. 'Music: Response' is a personal favourite.

I love the last two on Dig Your Own Hole - "Where Do I Begin", featuring the lovely Beth Orton, and "Private psychedelic reel."

Definitely the Private Psychadelic Reel. And Flyboy is right; Block Rockin' Beats, despite seeming in memory like a cliche, has not lost any of its might. I'm also a huge fan of The Test, which is surprising because I really didn't like much of Come With Us; Exit Planet Dust and Dig Your Own Hole are where it was really at for me.

That said, the new collaboration with Wayne Coyne, the title of which escapes me, is absolutely superb.

'The Golden Path' - now, see for me the really interesting thing about that song is... I don't get the Flaming Lips. I mean, I get that they're not a bad band in any sense. I get that Wayne Coyne is a beautiful and charismatic man, infused with Joycore to his very bones, warm, witty and wise in interviews and on stage. I get that their live show is a wonderful spectacle. But then I listen to their records, and I don't quite get it.

That track, though: I get it. That's everything that people say is great about the Lips and which is clearly great about Coyne, translated onto a piece of recorded music. So I'm really grateful to the Chemical Brothers for helping me out there.

"The Private Psychedelic Reel" and that one with Hope Sandoval from Surrender (perhaps called "Asleep for Day" or something like that?) - Surrender in general too, as well as "Setting Sun".

Song to the Siren, definitely

Anyone heard the Daft Punk remix of Life Is Sweet..? It's decent, a little too "Daft Punk" for my liking, simply cause I am starting to see the Chem Bros sound is so bloody destinctive it's best to just let them do what they do, uninhibited. But not bad none the less. I REALLY like Song to the Siren, and obviously Block Rockin Beats and Hey Boy/Hey Girl (or Skeletons Breakdancing, as I like to call it if you've seen the video ) are fuckin' A list amoungst the classics. Man you guys have been so helpful in helping me come up with what to throw on this CD....

'Sunshine Underground' (I think it's called) 20 minutes of psyche-out-point-at-the-sky-christ-my-eyeballs-are-exploding mayhem. Sodding corker.

'Where do I begin' + 'Private Psychedelic Reel'
'Let Forever Be' + 'Hey Girl, Hey Boy'
'The Test'

The NME Ministry of Truth tell us we've always been at war with the Chemical Brothers, fuck that.

Buy the first three albums, the last one was a bit pants to be honest, and get the double CD 'Hits' album with b-sides and weird goodness.

Flyboy, I didn't get 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' or whatever it was either. I think that means I'm straight. As for 'The Golden Path' I'm underwhelmed, but 'Get Yourself High' rocks.

That still leaves you without "Power Move" which can be found conveniently on the Out Of Control single. It is the best ever.

And did anyone see "The Golden Path" video? Damn, that was like all my favorite Volkswagon commercials rolled into one!

I loved it.

Made me feel a bit quesy to be honest, I think it was the camera treatment that did it, 'cos they used the same on the Doves 'Here Comes the Fear' video. Was it the same guy?

If Grant Morrison were the Chemical Brothers he'd describe the video for 'The Test' as 'going over a lot of familiar themes' but it did it so well. The jellyfish, the beach, the house, the children... ahhh.

Oh fuck, I nearly forgot, their remix of Primal Scream "I'm Yours/You're Mine" (or whatever the fuck it's called, that's the chorus anyway)

Absolutely badass for its time and still.
