Ellis writes Justice League cartoon?

This could go over in the media section, but I doubt the fact that a comic writer will write a cartoon would be as big of a deal.

Personally, I feel that Ellis' superhero work is 9 out of 10 times fantastic, even though he says they're killing the industry, etc.

But... isn't it a bit odd that he'd write for the JL cartoon?? We'll see, I guess.

Huh... From comicscontinuum.com

"The seven current members of the Justice League will have plenty of company next year. The Continuum has learned there will be many guest-stars in the new season of the Cartoon Network series, which is currently in the works at Warner Bros. Animation.

Among the heroes appearing next season will be Red Tornado, Green Arrow and Black Canary.

Also appearing will be the Atom, in which sources say, is an episode written by Warren Ellis. Contacted by The Continuum, Ellis on Tuesday said he could not confirm his involvement in the show. "

Snippety from ComicbookResources.com interview with Ellis dated 12/5/03

"Oh, and I'm writing an episode of a cartoon, while quietly consulting on the script development of GLOBAL FREQUENCY (that sound you can hear is screenwriter John Rogers literally beating his brains out over the pilot script). "

Global frequency is dangerously close to becoming a TV series ! SO hopefully we can look forward to Authority the movie (Warren books only please !) Mark " I seem to have problem with charcter development so we go for shock tactics !" Miller need not apply!

As for Plantery . Well id just like the comic series please that takes long enough ;-)

It's not that much of a surprise: the past year or so of his Bad Signal mailouts have been littered with references to film development deals and such, so I think he'd pretty much take any TV project he could to raise his profile in the industry, even - *gasp*- a JL cartoon.

Plus, a lot of his recent miniseries have had the slightly desperate tang of someone waving frantically for attention from Hollywood, "Red" and "Global Frequency" especially. Naturally, it's the appalling "Global Frequency" - a good idea spoiled by apparently being written by the brain-damaged winner of "Ellis Idol" - that's been picked up by the studios...

I'm looking forward to it, anyway. I've loved as much Ellis stuff as I've hated, and the JL cartoon varies wildly in quality, so it'll be interesting to see where the two intersect.

Warren Ellis already wrote the at least one episode of Superman a few years ago if I remember right, the one with Metallo in it, so it wouldn't be too out of character for him to write JLA.

I think you're thinking of Joe Lansdale. I don't know of any Superman cartoons that he's written.

See, my point is that writing the Justice League is entirely out of character for the very icon of anti-superheroes, Ellis. His own words show this:

From: http://giaever.com/op/transmet/warreninterview1.htm

"You've mentioned leaving the spandex-clad world of superheroes entirely.

Ellis- God, yes!

Will Authority and Planetary be your last series within this genre?

Ellis- They will be the last, ultimate superheroprojects. There are a couple of other things that I've been asked to do, really short pieces that I consider doing only because they're favours to friends. I nearly died writing superseries. I wasn't one of those who read them as a child. 2000 AD was more my thing. Of course I'd seen Superman comics with Superman flying about while saving the world for Truth, Justice and the American Dollar. I was about 10 when 2000 AD showed up. Some of what was depicted there was for instance extremely graphical depictions of exploding astronaut stomachs in space, cowboyeating dinosaurs... Superman just wasn't quite as exciting."

Also, his reputation shows this as well, as seen on cbr.com

"Guest stars aplenty, according to Comics Continuum. Look for Red Tornado, Black Canary, Green Arrow (any other primary colors they missed?), and possibly an episode guest starring The Atom written by the world's most vocal opponent of super heroes, Warren Ellis."

I think it'll be a good episode as when he does write superheroes (aside from the embarassing X-Force) it is quite good. I mean, his black and white Batman story is incredibly noce. But... this is definitely something that his fan base would have roasted him on a spit for three years ago (which is a shame as he is far better eating now than he was then).

The man has ranted for years about how the industry needs to wake up and extend outside of steel-jawed super heroes in tights... and yet he's writing the peak of the very thing. Guess he's content to tuck the industry in and collect the paychecks then. Orbiter and the unfinished Ministry if Space must not sell quite up to what he expected.
