pin: my own impression is that there's probably quite an even spread, but that we can expect to see a more vocal 'anti' brigade at this point in time a) as a backlash to the prominence of Justin Timberlake in various end-of-year polls/awards, b) because the McDonalds ad nonsense gives them a regrettable perception of ammunition.
But anyway, the idea that JT is a "poor man's" or "lite" version of RW doesn't stand up for a moment. Massive digression that belongs in the Music forum boiled down to a short comparison: no matter how much you personally may dislike his music, Justin has achieved what Robbie wanted to do, came close to doing, but ultimately failed - left a boy band only to gain the acceptance of the most prominent artists in a slightly different genre, one which he clearly aspired to and with which he is now associated (substitute Brit-indie-rock for r&b/soul). True, Justin could still fuck up, but his close relationship with the Neptunes seems markedly different from the rather brief and later bitterly recanted drug-buddying of, say, Robbie and the Gallagher brothers.
I'd like to make the obvious gag now: "I'm not sure if Robbie Williams is invisible, but I certainly wish he was inaudible. Please remember to tip your waitresses."
Duncan is on the money about 'No Regrets' though.
Actually, shall we move this thread to the Music forum? |
