Which comic book characters would you worship? All Marvel? All DC or a combination of both? Fantastic Four as the Four Elements? Spider-Man as Trickster or god of traps? Superman as Christ? BlogMachineGo!

When I was 15 I worshipped Sandman, Death and Delerium...

...I WAS 15! Stop laughing!!

Dark comics? Comic book religion?

I know this is a geeky forum but fucking hell!

Baz, not quite forgiven. By fifteen I'd already declared Sandman to be angst ridden goth porn. Seriously, Dream, Death, Delerium, Desire, Destiny and Destruction - key modern archetypes? Teenage wankery more like.

Christ, I'm so holier than thou, but I just can't help myself.

I worship Jack Kirby.

No, now his New Gods. Kirby Himself.

Piffle. I'm a fanboy.

The Phoenix, I guess. This is such a weird question.

You could always pretend that Doctor Octopus was Vishnu, I suppose.

Mister Six, Phoenix, Catwoman, Promethea

What is this about Morrison having some idea about the Kree's religion?

Can I worship Dumb Bunny? Or Angel and the Ape?

Seriously.

Zoom.

Interesting- I mean a lot of the time you feel like you can relate to a character or agree with one- but worship? Suprised this hasn't already been used as an idea.

Like, ancient heroglyph things used in religious ceremonys are a combination of words and pictures arent they?

These people worship at the altar of John Byrne and all his glory.

Hey, he's one of my fave artist/writers, but some of these folks are just too much...

My first line of thought regarding this took me to Poison Ivy to Swamp Thing.

Then came the SUN. Can I say RAO? If not, then Jor-L.

Sully not this holy altar with your scepticism and cynically agnostic stance, Matthew. This is a huose built for the elevated divine.

I say to you, dude.

Chesed check out an interview Morrison gave on CBR a couple of months ago. Not only does it talk about the Kree religion but it also mentions the Kree Book of the Dead. At least I think it was in CBR (comic book resources).

I'm going to print out this thread and show it to women in bars to make myself look more attractive.

Superman has been a solar messiah figure more-or-less since his creation. Sent from the Heavens by his father to do good here on Earth, powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men, etc.

This became more-or-less overt during the Elliot S. Maggin years. Since Crisis, Superman has even died and risen from his tomb.

I've invoked the name of Grant Morrison in ritual before. Well, and King Mob, but that's sort of a duality, innit? And I did a weird Chaos thing that involved Magneto once.

My new altar plan includes some Ninja Turtles, representing the four earthly elements. Ideally I'd have Shredder there too, as the uniting spirit, but I haven't found a good figure of him yet.

But all of these are more instances of drawing on cultural/spritual essence. Not so much with the worship.

DOCTOR DOOM AND MEGATRON!!!!!!!!

i've always thought they stood out and felt they were the baddest mutha fuggas on the block. so it would be great to have them as some sort of monolithic/epic world conquering deities.

i also forgot to mention that when grant morrison was writing the jla, he basically made parallels with the greek pantheon and the justice leauge. he made the comparison of batman/hades. well... doctor doom is the anti-batman! so why not? doc doom can be hades!
