MY all time march fave :

"Free Nelson Mandela!"

which appeared in a row with "I Farted!" and "OK, Who Touched Me?"

Also liked the portrait of Tone and Phone wrapped in the US flag with the large bold font "ARSE!"

"George Wanker Bu$h", "Buck Fu$h, Buck Flair" (also "Fliar" (sic) - do you see?) and, for raging ineptitude :

"Bin Bush, Bin Blair, Bin Bin Laden, Bin The Hole (sic) Lot"

Anyone else enjoy the perverse wit of the great unwashed? Pray tell...

Just a thought, but if they'd stuck "Trent" between "Hole" and "Lot", and added an extra "t" on "Lot", it might have been a better slogan.

Might.

But maybe not, eh?

I saw a woman whose banner read " I love you George W" I can't work out whether it was meant to be ironic or not.

I did like this photo off of Indymedia:

I saw a man carrying an enormous pretzel on a stick...

Okay, that's just weird.

There were lots of banners about pretzels...somethin to do with our royal family's ancestry and the american taste for German pastries I guess

More to do with Bush having choked on one.

A pretzel or a Roya- best stop there, methinks.

Although I always assumed (even at the time) that the "choking on a pretzel" thing was bullshit, and Dubya was back on the sauce... maybe I'm just too quick to judge others by my own standards.

hmm, interesting notion.

I liked the Bush Has Mad Cowboy Disease one, and the American Warwolf in London one. We also thought Bush is a Cunt had a certain directness to it. There was a Free Nelson Mandela, and an Okay, Who Touched Me? which made me chuckle, but my fave placard was: I Can't Think of a Slogan.

Yes, "Bush is A Cunt" was up there with the best of the best.

I missed the American Warwolf, quite clever that one...

I have to say that Cholister managed to convince me the last time we had a thread like this:

Calling Bush a cunt is an insult to cunts and it fucks me off royally. Saying that Blair is a cocksucking little toadie is completely homophobic and it disgusts me to see that sort of thing unexamined on Barbelith.

...To the extent that when I saw a placard bearing a drawing of Bush buggering a poodle with Blair's face, bearing the slogan 'The Special Relationship', I considered going over and having a word. Well, not so much a word.

Favourite slogan: 'Texans Against Bush'. Cos it must really not be fun to have the place you come from by accident of birth used as an epithet to suggest why Dubya is the way he is...

there was an awful lot of homophobia yesterday in the imagery and slogans...

I didn't quite notice... I suspect it depends how far you want to carry the whole idea of prejudice. George Bush grabbing the Queen's breasts, is it ageist? Disrespectful? Heterophobic? Is it okay because she's an authority figure, even though she has no real power?

Of course I might agree with you and just not have noticed yesterday.

grabbing the Queen's breasts, is it [...] [d]isrespectful?

well call me the latest example of political correctness gone wild(TM), but glorifying sexual assault might - just might - not be the most constructive form of protest one could envisage...

er, on the original topic, according to a poster on U75 there was a woman with a poodle there yesterday. She had a banner saying, Bush, You Make Me Ashamed to be an American, and the poodle had a banner on it saying, Blair, You Make Me Ashamed to be a Poodle. Class!!

One of the standout banners from the last march was double sided - with 'Nice bush' - and a pic of ... (well do I have to spell it out) on one side - and 'Nasty Bush' and a pic of Dubya on the other.

Then there was "Bush and Blair - fire blanks like your fathers should have done."

Or perhaps they were offering MP3s of the new Queen single.

Personally, I'd have gone for "U.S. TROOPS OUT OF CHECHNYA -- NOW!" ...

There were a couple of people singing black power songs and modifying the words. It was weird to hear them after such a long time, they were singing things I remember from childhood protests.

I remember my childhood protests...

"Bring back British Bulldogs!!"

" Dude I'm not eatin Brocolli"

Those were the days, real issues.

"END U.S. SUPPORT OF IRISH REPUBLICANISM!"

"RECLAIM TIBET NOW!"
