No, it'll be live action, shooting next year. There's a Doctor Who cartoon being serialized on the BBC website with Richard E Grant in the role, though.

It seems the animated version is mostly webcast. Though I could be mistaken.

This is the animated version featuring Richard E Grant. A few months back, it was the biggest thing to hit Who fandom. REG was announced as the 'official' new Doctor and the series features a super big star as possibly the Master. It's written by fan fave writer Paul Cornell and would at the time possibly lead to a series.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago (and another thread on the Lith) and Russel T Davies has been confirmed as the new producer of Doctor Who. The new series will be beaming to TV Screens in 2005 with an unconfirmed Doctor for 13 45 minute episodes with a 5 year committment from the BBC and lots of publicity.

So, uh... where does 'Scream of the Shalka' (the animated webcast available at http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/ for those of you playing at home)....? Uh... I dunno.

But it's better than 'Death Comes to Time' fercrissakes.

Please tell me REG isn't the new Doctor Who...

Ganesh, read carefully, lad, it's not been decided. The actor to play the role of the Doctor is unconfirmed. So I highly doubt it.

There's another thread on this.

REG is the cartoon Doctor Who for the BBCi animated series. The live action version hasn't been cast yet, but Russell T Davies wants Bill Nighy. Doctor Who is like busses, I guess. You wait ages and then two come along at once!

Here's Who Radio Times readers want (in order of preference)...
1) Tony Head
2) Alan Rickman (?)
3) Stephen Fry
4) Alan bloody Davies.
5) Ian Richardson.

All the most dunderheaded choices. Most seem to be chosen because they're either plummy Brits or resemble in some way a previous Doctor.
To be honest, I don't know why I care, because I can honestly say I've never seen a Doctor Who episode I thought was good. The concept is amazing (Any time, any place) the villains interesting, the actors who played the Doctors patchy, the theme tune hypnotic, but the whole just disappoints me. I guess I would just like to see it done well.

For the record, Alan Davies said no.

...and there's already a thread on this elsewhere that addresses all of this...
