Endorphins/Pheromones = Health?

So, I’ve feeling pretty lousy for about a week, a cold, back pain, the works. Then, last night, for the first time in two weeks, I get to really spend time with my girlfriend. I can tell I feel better with in 20 minutes. And this morning, I wake up, the cold’s gone completely, and my back is much less sore. So, it gets me thinking. Do the bio-chemicals released when one is attracted to someone increase white blood cell count? If so, why? Or am I just jumping to conclusions and this is just coincidence?

do you live with your girlfriend?
if you dont, its possible that the surroundings made the difference.
her house may be cleaner, less damp, warmer, and she may even have a better bed.

all of that will lend itself to your healing process.

No, and we were at my place the whole time.

Mmm, well I have experienced feeling better as a result of seeing a particular person, but I don't think their presence altered my physical health. It each case seeing that person certainly improved my mental health (as I guess seeing your gf for the first time in 2 weeks would) and as a result I felt better because I felt happier. That could be another contributing factor to what you experienced.

Back with your original theory, I have read articles in new scientist stating that a regular sex life has health benefits (including boosting immune system), so I guess pheromones could trigger a similar response. I think it may be far more important that you suddenly had this block of time with someone and you were able to relax properly and enjoy their company.

Something to watch for related articles I guess.

I'd say if you saw your girlfriend in the biblical sense, it probably did have real health benefits. At any rate, why question it? I've never subjected my "Tequila Cures the Common Cold" theory to scientifc analysis, and it still works just fine.

Hmm. Point, ibis. Basically, I asked this question so that I could legitimately claim that modern science says that we should spend more time together (and we are). My thanks to harmony for the info, as well.
