London Thanksgiving

Boy in a Suitcase
09:26 / 12.11.03
A Thanksgiving for errant Americans in London and their English compatriots, and an all-around excuse for a Barbelith get-together. Boy in a Suitcase's house is offered.

This supercedes the now-scuttled (yarr, pirate term) "VEGAN PICNIC II: IRON JUSTICE"

WHO DOWN?

OH! I've always wanted to do Thanksgiving being English and all. When is it? What do you do?

I don't care for pumpkin either, but there are pumpkin pie alternatives that are quite nice - my mother's pumpkin roll, for example. absolutely fantastic.

damn, I thought I had the recipe in my email, too.

Darn, I would be up for it, but I was so traumatized by the fact that thanksgiving is just a normal day here last year that I'm going to the states for thanksgiving this year.

Good idea, though.

Don`t forget the raping and pillaging of Native Amerikans and then being
thankful for it.

I am a total humbug when it comes to Thanksgiving. Anyway, you
can`t do it properly here unless you invite a bunch of actors to play yer
uncles and have them sit around watching (videos?) Amerikan football
and farting and snoring for hours after stuffing themselves fatter than the
poor turkey who dies for their sins.

I do like the "unatural" things done to marshmallows however...

Un-natural things done with marshmallows? That's melting them right? Yummiest.

Not wishing to sound overly stupid (but I am, so that's the way it comes out)... when exactly is Thanksgiving?

It's the night of Survivour Series...

Actually I learnt all I need to know about it a couple of weeks ago on Roseanne when I had a sickie....it was so cheesy I was nearly sick, anyone see it..?

You should all have Turducken.

"Our Turducken starts with a boneless Chicken, fill it with cornbread dressing and then stuff the chicken into a boneless Duck. Next, we put the duck and chicken into a semi-boneless Turkey and stuff it with Cajun sausage. The only bones are the turkey legs and wings."

Lily... all of this came AFTER the first thanksgiving!! History of the first Thanksgiving here Started by religious zealots, yes, but by Native American rapists, no.

Me, I love Thanksgiving, mainly because (today at least) it's the holiday that ISN'T religious and basically just consists of getting together with friends or family and eating and drinking lovely things. Sounds good to me!
