To move the discussion out slightly, I do wonder about the obsession the UK media seems to have with child killers. The headlines in the UK at the moment are all about the trial of Ian Huntley, for the double murder of two young girls (aged 10 or so). I don't know if this is solely the effect of the press and wanting to sell papers, there''s uch an obsession around it in the UK, we seem to have some weird media based sacrifice collective catharis cult being acted out through the papers. I suppose this is refered to in The Invisibles, with the reference to Princess Diana haveing Myra Hindley as her anthithesis.
(sidenote: Why is all the bile always directed at women? Ian Brady was primarily repsonible for the Moors Murders, yet Hindley seems to have become the nation's bogewoman. In this trial, Huntley's girlfriend, Maxine Carr, seems to be attracting an inordinate amount of hatred. Women disobeying cultural programming, of nuturing roles, maybe?)
