The idea is for you all to vote ONCE ONLY for a book from this list, so that we can compile the wondrous and definitive Top Ten Barbelith Big Read Books.

So. In order to stop the voting from descending into utter chaos, please use the following format to vote for your choice of book from this list:

name of book author of book current number of votes

So for example, my vote will be:

The Secret History by Donna Tarrt VOTES: 1

The next person to vote for this book would put VOTES: 2 and so on and so forth.

Please don’t copy and paste the whole list, because it’ll make the thread big, silly and boring. I’ll post up the current status list at various intervals. And just in case, if you’re not sure how to do the html to get bold and italics it’s all lovelily and simply explained in the wiki.

And....Go!

I prefer the BBC list. That being said:

13:08 / 06.11.03
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov VOTES: 3

Sax

Goodness Gracious Meme
22:13 / 06.11.03
God that's a bad list.

If i wuz voting tactictally, things would be much different, but I'm not, so:

Dennis Cooper - Guide. votes: 1

(the tactical vote would be Gen X)

Captain Zoom

Zoom.

elthe deuro
22:28 / 06.11.03

Hitchhikers guide: VOTES: 3

No star here laces
04:42 / 07.11.03
Catch 22: votes 3

In fairness to the list, which is kinda cack, the criteria for selection were "stuff you read for comfort and have read loads of times" so it would tend to include lots of "cack fantasy".

Jack Denfeld
07:42 / 07.11.03
I just looked over the thread and I've only read three of the books on the list, one I nominated myself, and another is by Stephen King. Am I missing out? I mean I've read different books by some of the authors on this thread, but only three of the books themselves. How many have you people read from this list? Oh fuck, I've only read books by six of the authors listed.

Squirmelia
07:51 / 07.11.03
Generation X by Douglas Coupland. VOTES: 2

Mystery Gypt
06:14 / 08.11.03
GUIDE / dennis cooper VOTE 2

i'd like to point out that by having two books by cooper -- and both from the same cycle -- risk splitting his votes. can we pull frisk out of the competition, or calculate all cooper votes together?

Cat Chant
10:34 / 08.11.03
Dennis Cooper - Guide - VOTES: 3

Looks like you don't have to worry too much about that there tactical voting, BiP... and Mystery, I'd be really interested to see how the votes split between Frisk & Guide, regardless of how it affects Dennis's overall rating (because, you know, the man's not going to lose any sleep over not beating Terry Pratchett to the top 10 because his vote got split). Can we leave them both in?

Cat Chant
10:37 / 08.11.03
Oh shit, I didn't see The Homeward Bounders in there... but that's probably for the best, because it means I won't have to spend all day fighting with myself like Evan Dorkin's Incredible Two-Headed Fanboy (I wanna watch Seaquest! I wanna watch Lois and Clark! Bounders! Guide!!! etc etc ad infinitum.)

■
17:33 / 08.11.03
I'm sticking to my guns. Hogfather, dammit.

Rev. Orr
21:38 / 08.11.03
Catch-22 - Votes 4

Which shouldn't surprise anyone.

Yuzu
00:29 / 09.11.03
