Know any good Cultural Studies M.A. courses?

Um, I'm tired, sick and in tears after the nightmare that is the UC Berkeley website. So, I am fleeing American cultural imperialism and looking to my neighbour for a taste of something different but not confusingly so. Please, oh British academic types, tell me that there's good M.A. courses in the areas of cultural studies and/or English (lit and creative writing) available somewhere in your land. Please give me info on what and where and fees and important things like that or just give me websites and I will dutifully trawl through them. I do not want to end up doing a masters in my old university but they make it so fucking difficult for you to apply for masters if you didn't get yer primary from the same institution.

Oh yes, and when I said "somewhere in your land", I prefer somewhere a bit, say, Londony or most preferably Endinburghy, but if anyone knows of top-rate courses not in these zones then please tell me.

I will cry tears of gratitude.

P.S. If there's any Cal students or applicants who can explain the following to me do not hesitate to do so.
(1) Does Cal have an M.A. programme in English that can be undertaken without committing to the full Ph.D programme?
(2) Do you have any idea what kind of application process an American citizen who has never been a long-term resident in the US would have to go through?
(3) Is it relatively easy to get jobs as TA or graduate instructor or whatever you bloody call them and do they cover much of your (inordinate) expenditure?

This was all I could get off google at this time of night but you sounded like you needed immediate attention! Here are two London universities with okay websites...
Birkbeck

Goldsmiths

Good luck sweets!

University of Sussex (www.sussex.ac.uk) in Brighton (45 mins from London with a following wind and much nicer anyhow) used to do some sterling Eng Lit courses - with on splendid route entitled "Sexual Dissidence and Cultural Change" - but it's been laying off staff lately, I don't know if the quality has gone down.
They sting the overseas types something painful. But so does everywhere.

here's a thread about interviewing for cult.studs MAs in the UK. mentions various courses/has perspectives from people on Goldmsmiths/Leeds etc.

Hope it's useful.

I did, and really enjoyed, what is now the Visual Culture MA at G'smiths, and know people who've done the Cult Studs one, if you want info on that. Not v.in touch with academia any more but it used to have a good rep.

Also heard good things recently about UEL(university of east london) for less known but more cutting-edge stuff on race/culture/sexuality...

Thank you so much. Really appreciate the info. As you said in a bit of state - the proverbial "oh I'm an Arts grad what the hell do I do with MY LIFE" state - especially as work, while not actually horrible, is sending me into existential despair. Will check these out when am not so bone tired.
