Um, I'm tired, sick and in tears after the nightmare that is the UC Berkeley website. So, I am fleeing American cultural imperialism and looking to my neighbour for a taste of something different but not confusingly so. Please, oh British academic types, tell me that there's good M.A. courses in the areas of cultural studies and/or English (lit and creative writing) available somewhere in your land. Please give me info on what and where and fees and important things like that or just give me websites and I will dutifully trawl through them. I do not want to end up doing a masters in my old university but they make it so fucking difficult for you to apply for masters if you didn't get yer primary from the same institution.
Oh yes, and when I said "somewhere in your land", I prefer somewhere a bit, say, Londony or most preferably Endinburghy, but if anyone knows of top-rate courses not in these zones then please tell me.
I will cry tears of gratitude.

P.S. If there's any Cal students or applicants who can explain the following to me do not hesitate to do so.
(1) Does Cal have an M.A. programme in English that can be undertaken without committing to the full Ph.D programme?
(2) Do you have any idea what kind of application process an American citizen who has never been a long-term resident in the US would have to go through?
(3) Is it relatively easy to get jobs as TA or graduate instructor or whatever you bloody call them and do they cover much of your (inordinate) expenditure? |
