I am totally going to see some fireworks tomorrow. So where is the best place to go? It seems that a good one is on the Thames but that isn't till Saturday. So is the one on Clapham Common good? Or am I a bit sad asking this?

You're not sad in the slightest.

Go to Blackheath. I am obsessed with fireworks and when I lived in London I did loads of research. That is sad. Lewisham council (Blackheath) spend the most money, and have the best display apparently. The one I saw was spectacular.

Unfortunately, I think the Blackheath ones were on Sunday - and Alexandra Palace was on Saturday. Mostly the big ones are on the weekends, which is a shame.

Kegboy: See A History of Guy Fawkes Day

(boy tries to blow up parliament with a LOT of gunpowder, boy fails, boy becomes annual effigy. Standard story)

Bit of a coincidence that the old Celts would have been celebrating the festival of Samhain around this time too, marking the end of Summer. While Hallowe'en has taken up many of the ancient traditions associated with Samhain, its bonfires, human sacrifice (burning effigies) and public gatherings might have found a home on the 5th of November.

Oh I know who Guy Fawkes is...I just didnt know that GFD was Nov. 5th.
Now the mystery is solved. But now I feel like burning something on a big fire.

Hmmm, maybe I'll watch the champs league instead. London should make more effort midweek.

God, you should just have headed East, Buk - nothing official going on but it's sounded like a battlezone for the past few hours. I feel like Stoatie's dog. Cycling home was quite alarming.
