It's a Triple-Chocolate cake filled with Milk Chocolate-Orange filling, glazed with a Dark Chocloate-Orange glaze, and decorated with candied orange peel (which I made myself. I'm especially proud of that part). Most of my cakes look terrible but taste fabulous, but this one looks lovely. Which is good, since a friend 'hired' me to make it for her daughter's birthday party today, and I was worried that it would look like shit and that she would cry, since she's only turning three.
The only really unfortunate thing about this cake was that my whole house reeked of chocolate and oranges last night. You would think that that would be a nice thing for one's house to reek of, but I was gagging and cursing and swearing that I would never eat chocolate again as I tried to fall asleep last night...
bitchiekittie, if you hop on a train to Poughkeepsie and crash the party at the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum, I'd be glad to save you a piece.
Persephone, making cake is the most fun I've had since immigrating to the USA. I've made ridiculously complicated cakes for every even halfway celebratory occasion. It keeps me somewhat sane. The best was my wedding cake: It had tiers and everything. And buttercream frosting which called for two boxes of butter. It was great.
Kegboy, I'll send you some cake when I'm back in Canada for X-mas or something. Really, I will. |
