What's going on in 2000AD these days?

The easy way for me to answer Boboss' question would have been to post a link to www.2000adreview.co.uk which has a feature with various Droids filling us in on what lies ahead and detailed reviews and recaps of past issues so that if you pick up the latest issue you can get a full story so far.

If there's a comic shop nearby and you're feeling plush you could get the big old Christmas issue (which is pretty much the best they've done) and the 4 issues that have come out since then.

What worries me is that I've just got an e-mail of a mate saying The Surgeon in the current Dredd tale reminds him of me. This is disturbing on so many levels I don't know where to begin.

Oh, and the following ad was in the back of the Christmas prog and the latest issue and has got readers in a tizzy -

Dredd - Origins - History will be written in 2006 - John Wagner - Carlos Ezquerra.

gods destroy earth story is promising.

s'called ten-seconders.

first two episodes were pacy, atmospheric, dramatic. good art. unusual colouring. not bought last two issues tho, maybe should.

rennie has perfected his scripting, finally, with caballistics, but he still grates.

Stronty - old school. not bad.

dredd. old school. not bad.

slaine - art is beyond shite.

"Red Seas is a return to form for Youewel art".

Sold.

Thanks DavidXBrunt & Sleazenation - I was tempted to get it, but a little wary of picking it up as I've found a fair amount of 2000AD stuff to be a bit disappointing. I reckon as long as this is a bit of a laugh, with decent Yeowell art I'll give it a go though.

While this thread is being bumped, what happened to the Dredd vs Death movie? I've not heard anything about it since the (fairly rubbish) game of the same name came out, yet IMDB has it listed as released in 2003 (with about ten casr members and no other info).

It's filed under "It'll never happen" as far as I'm concerned. The company occasionally issued press releases until the end of 2003 but there's been a conspicuous silence ever since then. Things are actually moving on a film of another Wagner story and I expect that'll happen long before Dredd returns to the big screen. Even the Stronty T.V. series from the late 90's got much, much closer to being made than those films. I'd put money on the rights eventually reverting to the House of Tharg and being flogged again to another non starting film company.

Gecko - if by some strange chance you don't like Red Seas give me a mail and I'll buy your copy from you, or trade it for something. Think of it as insurance for your purchase. Don't go expecting Halo Jones though, as it's more Sam Slade than that. But that means it's fun, escapist adventure done well, and that's no small thing in itself.

If Sinister Dexter is in it I'll be disappointed

Sinister Dexter seems to get the backs up of everyone who remembers reading the comic in the Eighties, myself included. I'm really not sure why (I haven't read the strip for at least ten years, so I can't remember my original reasoning).
