I used to have a beard, a nice little goatee one. I grew it while I was in Cuba, and to continue the theme I went to a fancy dress party a few months later as Che Guevara. Imagine how chuffed I was when someone said to me: "Who the fuck have you come as, Saddam Hussein?"

Or maybe it's like when you take a photo of a huge tree and you have a person standing next to it to show the full scale and magnificence of it. The photo wouldn't work without the person, and the beards don't work without the nice-try moustache man, bottom right.

Clearly this guy is the true winner. Pretty traditional admittedly, but beat that!

With a special mention going to Willi Chevalier's 'cthulhu beard'.

Apparently he's the current 'partial beard, freestyle' world champion. This is the greatest sport I've ever encountered. And they all belong to Beard Clubs! How come I've never seen a Beard Club?
