It's gotta be Invisibles. I still love it from beginning to end as if it were a blood relative. Still a contender for "greatest.. thing.. ever made!"

Why was it so good?

Steve Yeowell's incredible and very english-newsprinty art

It was Eagle gone WRONG!

Scary, scary, scary!

Pop! The superheroes actually looked REALLY COOL (genuinely contemporary and rave and all that).

Funny, funny, funny!

First comic to literally get me thinking out of the box. Chimera forever!

Archie Acid.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned "The New Adventures of Hitler"... wasn't necessarily one of my favourites, but it DEFINITELY had its moments (although my favourite memory of that was GM's respons to Pat Kane's editorial in "Cut" magazine as to why he was leaving- because the magazine was printing a FUNNY STORY! ABOUT HITLER!- a reasoned argument as to why "NAOH" was NOT supporting fascism, but was instead trying to illustrate that Hitler was nothing special... just a total loser... finishing with the phrase "Pat Kane- fuck off and die.")

"New Adventures of Hitler" was bloody good, too. (Not such a one for following artists, but that was Yeowell, too, right?) The scene with the British Bulldog releasing runny shit all across ye olde English tablecloth for cream teas (with John Bull, of course) while Adolf tries to find Grail symbolism in the teacup...

I still think Zenith was better, but surely I'm not the only person who liked this? (He had Morrissey in his wardrobe, for fuck's sake...)

I'm torn between Animal Man and Doom Patrol. The biggest trip for me was the Invisibles, but I really think you had to BE THERE, you know? You had to be caught up in it. In retrospect it doesn't work that well, but while it was running it was everywhere around you all the time. At least until the third volume. So most impactful - Invisibles. Best while it was happening - Invisibles. Most influential, puzzling, brain-testing - Invisibles.

Best comic run? Animal Man or Doom Patrol. Probably Animal Man comes out on top.

Nice one Tom! That's exactly how I feel about the Invisible, but somehow couldn't express it.
