Well, last year I was in China and I bought a beautifull "shaolin-monk" outfit. It's all black, with red details. I also have a chinese circular straw hat ad a staff. It will be very cool.

I've been told I have to turn up for work next friday in costume (I work in an office). Am I just being a miserable bugger, or are they taking some liberties in making it compulsory?
Also does anyone have any ideas for a costume that is cheap, won't get me stared at too much on the tube on the way to work, and will be practical to work in all day? I've left all my costume staples packed away in my parent's house so am somewhat limited to options.

I would tend to opine that they're taking serious liberties there Phox -especially if you work in an office, I can understand a shop wanting to present a united front but if you're going to have to go on the underground dressed as a schoolgirl and then sit in an office all day I can't see the value in that so much.

I'd tend to say that low-key costumes are mostly about the hats, so I'd look around some charity shops for one of those you can build a costume around. Buy a bowler, wear a suit and tell them you're an accountant. Carry an umbrella, if you want to give off the image of obsessive attention to detail.

Phox: Get a hammer and a false beard and go as Peter Sutcliffe. They won't ask you again.

If you really want to screw around with "compulsory" costuming: trade clothes with a co-worker and go dressed up as each other.

Or don't dress up and say you're a serial killer. They look just like everybody else, you know.

Aha, one step ahead of you there Sax, since we met I have grown a beard, so all I need is the hammer.
I will probably just add an eye-patch and a bandanna & go as a pirate.

Peter the Pirate.

You know it makes the good sense.
