Big Magick Winter Coat!

I just bought a coat and I want to enchant it! I want every time I put it on to exude coolness and sex appeal. I want it also to protect me from harm (magickal armor), and above all, I want it to keep me warm!

So how would I go about casting a spell on my winter couture?

(And to broaden the thread... I'm extending the question to all inanimate objects.)

I just retired a coat that worked that way, and I've been thinking about how to do it with a new one (I wore the old one for many years, and its "powers" sort of accumulated over time).

Hmmm... I'll brainstorm a little more and get back to you.

What type of coat is it?

So what happens to the coolness and sex appeal when you take the coat off? (just a thought)

Where I'm not at all allergic to hand-sewing, I would bless/charge some thread and then run a line of stitches around the coat on the inside - all along the places the lining joins the outer fabric, and then along all the interior seams and the edges of the pockets. (It would be a wonderful thing for protection if you could use one unbroken thread to go all around the edge of the lining, but as a practical matter I don't think that's feasible.)

If that doesn't match your skill-set, you could make a herbal infusion and then spritz it on the jacket (or paint it on in symbols), provided that the finish (or lining) of the coat won't show getting wet... I'd seal it in with a coating of scotch-gard or some such afterwards.

Oh, I'm not too worried about that as I'm already cool and sexy but you can never be too cool or sexy. Just a vain little glamour for when i'm wearing it.

If it was going make you exude coolness and sex appeal, you'd have known it straight off, aye? Just the look in the mirror, the way it goes with your ensemble and style. Perhaps the process of breaking it in may bond the article to your specific flavour, assuming it hasn't so far.

Magical armour is easier, maybe. You could sew protective symbols along the inline, or just use some manner of permanent marker. I suppose it all depends on what sort of harm you want to ward off.

I'll come back to the inanimate objects in general after further consideration. Depends on the bit, doesn't it? Rather wide topic.

This is a kind of Magical Link thing, isn't it?

Well, the Magical Link can be forged with time. Wear the coat every day. Really learn what is good about your coat. And for God's sake don't let anyone else touch it!

I have a strong magical link with both my guitar and my knife (I'm a chef and musician). No-one touches either of these that doesn't treat them like treasured objects - even then, maybe two people in each case. They have personalities, and what's more, I rely on them. The guitar has a name, too - but I ain't gonna tell you. Build up associations. Magic is (arguably) thought - so think about your coat: what it means to you on every level you can come up with.

Magic is not in the coat, but between you and the coat.

Does it have inner pockets? Maybe you can put something spooky in 'em--coat as gris-gris bag.

You could imagine the coat shapeshifting into some kind of appropriate animal or just going off to pursue its own life occasionally.

I've done this with quite a few objects in the past. Generally I do this by awakening the spirits within a given object. It takes time, but it means that the power of the object is largley self-generating and poseses a Will of its own which can be directed to a given task. I have a rapier like this, Lovers (the name it chose for itself), that I mostly use as my Sword in on the odd time that I break into the full ritual magic (instead of using the nice looking, albeit it horribly cheap, knife I bought at a ren faire and my home-made medicine bundle [I really need to find a better word for it]).

Generally I find that a small amount of ritual time spent directing power into it and shaping that power into a given purpose. I have a replica daisho that has been enchanted with the specific purpose of defending and upholding the shielding on my room. My coat at one point had shields anchored to it, but I never really made a lot of effort afterwards to restore them or keep them going, and the fact that i wouldn't wear it for half the year meant that they degraded after a while until the coat just retained a glimmer of power to it...of course considering that I haven't actually been magically attacked while wearing the coat, for all I know the power just sank into the very fabric of it and would flair up again. I'm realy not interested in trying it out, however.
