Bush the Chicken Hawk

The Damned Yankee

There's this site I found, complete with documentation, that alleges that, not only did Dubya skate out of Vietnam by joining the National Guard, but also that he never even completed his term of service in the Guard. It also lists other prominent politicians (mainly Republicans) who in one way or another dodged the draft.

Funny, how they're so strident now, now that someone else does the fighting, isn't it?

Wait, what exactly is a 'chicken hawk'? Cause I thought it was something else entirely.

Yes - in the vernacular I'm familiar with, it's an older gay man who gets off on shagging young fresh faces on the scene. Often literally.

Indeed. This thread's title surprised me almost as much as the second time I met ZoCher's father and, over dinner, he started talking about how the word 'dyke' has two meanings: wall and...

...

... ditch.

How we sniggered.

I suspect that The Damned Yankee means that GWB is a political Hawk who's too Chicken to put on a uniform and actually see military action...?

(...Meaning that he'll send folks over to Afghanistan now, but back in the day he wouldn't go to Vietnam – where he would have potentially been in a similar situation.)

Now if Bush did that - then we'd have a story.

I'm assuming (though it's only just struck me now, and boy is that a clever name for this thread) chicken=coward, hawk=warmonger. Personally, it reminded me of a book I once read by a Huey pilot about Vietnam.
Not as funny as the whole gay slang thing, though.
But yeah... does this make Bush the equivalent of the guy who holds everyone's coats and stands at the back shouting "go on, have him, Steve!"?

Very true that he never completed his term of service. He walked off the camp and never returned, and no one seemed to mind. Also, he's been arrested for drunk driving. He was an alcoholic, which he claims was a problem from his youth, even though he was in his thirties. And again, no one seems to really care. Then there's The Hungry Little Catipillar, the book he said he loved most as a child, which was first published a year after he left Yale. I'm wondering if the bastard can even read above a sixth grade level.

Anyway, he's a moron and a liar, so screw him.

Yeah. The more I read it, the higher my blood pressure gets. I think I may have a heart attack by the end of it.
