198d? not having the album to hand, I think that's the really quiet one at the end of "Vaya" that goes all lound in the chours. It's a really beautiful song, esp. for crazy fuckers like the drive in.

As to their component halves:

Sparta suck. Stay away for them. Boring "post hardcore" nonsense.

The Mars Volta are great.
