I'm currently constrained from commenting in any way, but
since the following news story was released this afternoon --
http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/TV/10/21/television.nanny.reut/index.html
-- I can't stop you from reading it. Hell, about thirty people
have sent it to me...
"Under that deal, Burnettt has also teamed with writer-producer
John Rogers for a drama based on the DC spy comic "Global
Frequency," which has received a script commitment from
the WB.
" "Global Frequency" revolves around an independent defense
intelligence organization connected by a worldwide telecommunications
web that uses ordinary individuals as agents around the world to
fight black ops projects, unexplained phenomena and other problems
the government agencies have. "

the same info appeared on the most important comics news sites. you can tell there's a good and a bad thing about this from the subject line. GF is a book ready for TV; at the same time WB may be ready to screw it up. I'm happy with the news - GF is a book I like most of the time - and will give this the benefit of doubt.
this can work as a 30-minute non-stop sc-fi action pill. the 'spy' angle sounds a bit innacurate, though. Steven Grant talked last week in his PERMANENT DAMAGE [http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/index.cgi?column=pd&article=1757 - "Had one of those 'Hollywood' experiences recently"] about how japanese producers understand [and maybe respect] the source material and adapts them literally. I know it takes out the meaning of "adaptation" but hey, why do you need another writer and a storyboard artist when a comic is so good as it is?
people do like to spend money. |
