What's 'Pigface'?

I don't think I'd like a group called that. It's a stupid name.

Dunno... the one time I actually saw Pigface, they consisted of Martyn Atkins (then part of Killing Joke), En Esch (of KMFDM), some guy from the Rollins band and Mary Byker (of Gaye Bykers on Acid). They were fucking excellent. They really were. Best band ever, though... not sure. Although "Welcome to Mexico... Asshole" is one of my favourite live albums, featuring as it does "Suck" with Ogre out of Skinny Puppy doing the vocals.

Duh. Forgot to mention Chris Connelly, didn't I?

All Music Guide entry here.

It's a revolving-door thing, consisting of Martin Atkins and whoever happened to be in the studio that day. It's been a sort of who's-who of underground/industrial types, with contributions from (aside from those already listed) Genesis P-Orridge, Michael Gira, the whole of Shonen Knife, and, uh... Flea.

I always thought of Pigface as being the place to go if you're up for a busman's holiday but you haven't got the pop cred for the Golden Palominos.

I actually quite like what little I've heard of Pigface, Rage. But they're no Slayer.

Pigface always seem to be hit or miss, great line-up , but i've always found the records a bit patchy.....I imagine they're great live though.......

So.. Pigface sort of = members of various goth type bands doing some heavy rock fooling around in their spare time?

And this you put up against 'Reign in Blood'?

The only emotion I feel is pity. And Slayer know not of pity.

What do they sound like these days? I've only got the first album to go on, and a live show back around the same time. Both had massive moments of rock (the David Yow track especially - Bushmaster?), but I wouldn't compare them to Slayer, simply cos the sound and style are so different. Have they gone all thrashy?

Try Notes from thee Underground. Weirdly for Pigface you can listen to it for enjoyment.

Don't think so, Saveloy.

Rage has quoted my challenge to her from the Slayer thread at the start of this thread. You'll note that, despite my best efforts, that thread is three times the length of this one.

I dunno about Pigface being the best band ever, but I always thought that Welcome to Mexico...Asshole was the greatest album title ever.

If memory serves, Black Francis, Steve Albini, Caspar Brotzmann, Alex Patterson and..um...the guitarist from Silverfish also did time in Pigface. Maybe Jello Biafra and Al Jourgensen too?
