Cafe Scientifique

Have just been made aware of the various Cafe Scientifiques that are being set up around the UK. It's a monthly event where you get together in a bar or cafe to chat about various topical issues in science/technology, with the discussion opened (but not led) by a different speaker each month. It looks like you have to buy tickets for the London events, but everywhere else seems to be free.

Anyone fancy the Brighton ones? The next is on Tuesday 21st on prime numbers at Sumo (Middle St).

More on it at: http://www.cafescientifique.org

Are these things going on still, because they sound amazing.

The Brighton ones are still going - this month's is on human mutations and form variations, and next months is on biological clocks. There's more info on the websites - check the ones for individual cities rather than the main one.

They do indeed rock hard. I've been to 2 so far, on why prime numbers are groovy, and why robots won't take over the Earth; unfortunately, due to old-school physics-teacher nature of the speaker I came away from the latter convinced that robots were going to enslave us and that my electric toothbrush would suck out my brain.
