Have just been made aware of the various Cafe Scientifiques that are being set up around the UK. It's a monthly event where you get together in a bar or cafe to chat about various topical issues in science/technology, with the discussion opened (but not led) by a different speaker each month.
It looks like you have to buy tickets for the London events, but everywhere else seems to be free. I should be going to the Brighton ones (see Gathering for more info), not least because next month's topic is Why Robots Won't Rule...
