3, Understanding, Intelligence, language, reason, differentiation, distinction, limitation, yin, the "female" principle, knowlege, logic.

Here, the duality is complete. Binah offers the resistance of the eternal void against the onrushing power of Chockmah. The unstoppable force meets the immovable object, and from their clashing the myriad details of creation are born.

First there was one, then the one was divided into two. From there, the thousand things were born (paraphrase from Taoism).

All forms of limitation are born in Binah, and all intelligence in limitation. To make discrete and distinct is to make accessible to language, and thus understanding. Boundries are first manifest here. Things have a border to them, where once there was only being and force.

This is yin in the most primordial and impersonal sense. More human understandings of limitations manifest further below the abyss upon the pillar of severity. It is best understood both in duality with Chockmah, and in balance between Chockmah and Kether, for the three all work together in harmony.

The apple is eaten, understanding of good and evil has been gained, and man tossed from Eden as innocence is forever lost to understanding.

Qlippoth: Entropy. With no control or limits, energy is dissipated. With the dissipation of energy, this leads to the stasis of the qlippoth of Chokmah, and then to the unbeing in the Qlippothic Kether.

The Sea of Binah, the Womb of Creation. My favorite glyph is the High Priestess of the Thoth arcana. She is radiant with the silvery light of Luna, the holographic grid of form unfolding before her onto the kingdom of life.

Binah is the third point, the completion of the triangle, the first geometric form residing in principle above the Abyss. Here Form is conceptualized, the blueprint of creation, fed by the Logos (The Magus).

The Womb of Life. Ama, the Dark Mother, and Aima, the Light Mother. Ama is sterile and casts authority on form, correcting and bringing disipline to creation. She is Karma. Aima is the fertile mate of Chokmah who gives form to the whirling forces. She is Destiny. Thus the dual nature of Binah is as Mother and Matron, life giver and disciplinarian. Thus the Pillar of Severity is established.

The Sea of Binah is the source of all Lunar energy as this Sphere establishes the receptive & formative principles of the feminine Yin. It is dark yet full of life. This is also the collective unconscious of the species and the realm of the subtle archetypes, templates of form.

The experience of Binah, the highest that the mentality of mind can attain, is called the Vision of Sorrow. This is the bittersweet Understanding of what lies ahead now that Divinity has elected to advance into duality on the path to the Kingdom. All is no longer beatific and glorious for Creation. Yet redemption and ascension offer salvation and will complete the cycle bringing all back to the source of Kether and beyond. This is the mystery of the crucified Christ, and the purpose of life, to gain experience of itself in form.

It is in Binah that we are under the rulership of Saturn. Saturn, "the one who places itself above God" is the Governor of Earth, appointed as such due to the shared similarities between the two planets.

It is in BNH that we deal with the "concept" of Time itself. Binah, home of the "Tri-via" (3 ways) - "The Kindly Ones" to the Sandman fans among us. Binah is also home to "Father Time" (Thame) - Saturn is "The Lord of the Rings"

It is only through the crossing of the Abyss that we can enter the sphere - and it is only through "like appearance" that it's spirit will communicate with us. This is the reasonong of the "Long Beard, Gray Hair" of those who attempt approach.

Binah "The place of the Thrones" leading to Chokmah being the "Metatron" - "Beyond the Thrones" Chokmah being the "Word", Binah brings forth Form.

Chesed and Binah stare each other down across the Da'ath/Abyss - The battle of Time versus Mercy underway.
