This isn't entirely true. After a particularly nasty and complex divorce or family breakup or other disaster, or the deaths or desertion of the biological parents, it's common for a single relative to take in a child who needs a stable home, and eventually be allowed adoption rights. That's what critical here. And there is such a tremendous shortage of people willing or able to deal with foster children and older children in need of adoption, that single persons are regularly allowed to take in these young persons. So this law is, quite simply, criminal. |
