Here's something light and fun and non-intellectual. I made these babies. Make any of your own? (move this to the Creation if you think that would work better)

i like the first and last... v.intense, and perhaps a little magickal. kinda somehow reminiscent of William Burroughs' stuff, methinks.

This Place will print up trading cards for you pretty cheap... you can upload images use their templates or design your own... I'm holding some of their samples and the printing is one better paper than I expected and with that Laminated UV coating as well....

This would be a great way to use up all those unfinished or unused odds and ends lying about your sketch book, scrap book and hard drive - gather 'em into sympathetic sets of 3 or more and bung 'em on cards. Sticking something on a card and giving it is a title is like putting a frame round it, yeah?

Here are some that I didn't manage to finish earlier. They probably need text on them to be proper trading cards, any suggestions? I reckon they work best as packets of three:

City

Pilot

Sophisticat

Fairy

Bishop

Exorcism

Another thought: these - that is, original trading cards generally - would be perfect for that Hayvend project, where you can buy art out of a vending machine for a quid or thereabouts. I wonder if it's still going? Will have a look in a bit and report back...

I have no useful suggestions nor any useful analysis to contribute here, but I would like to give some gratuitous appreciation. I really like Saveloy's pics as well.

Why is that so much art is supposedly clever but just isn't pleasing to look at? I admit I know nothing about visual art, and it isn't a medium to which I have any sensitivity. But these pics just put a smile on your face, cos they're just full of life and imagination. I'd happily put them on my wall.

Thanks, Humble Pi!

I know no other bugger is looking at this thread, but I'm having too much fun putting these together not to post 'em. Still no text.

Saveloy> Hayvend's vending art is still going.. there's definitely still a machine at the ICA, and there was also at the Foundry when I last went there (a full list can be found on the website). I've been trying to think up cool ideas for their vending machines for years, but thought of nothing vaguely good so far.

Great trading cards! Are some of them parts of altered books? I've been attempting to alter some books, but am not too good at it. I like the trading card approach though, and might try to alter some pages in more of a trading card kind of way.

Squirmelia> Thanks! And thank you for the info and link. Very glad to see that it's still going.

"Are some of them parts of altered books?"

Well, the last three use pages from tatty old paperbacks (I like the golden brown colour that that sort of paper goes with age) and an old A-level science text book. The pages themselves have been mucked about with (the text on the 'Noize' pic was scratched away with the point of a scalpel, so that the nice text pattern remained but you couldn't read it), but the books themselves were just used as material. I'm a big fan of paper and glue collage, me.

These are great! Know what? I think we should make a compilation of these babies. You know, one of those little postcard book thingies you find at those artsy bookstores. Between several dozen of us we could come up with about a hundred barbelith postcards and put them all together. Give the cards to our friends, or even sell the postcard booklets over the net.

I like the idea, it's definitely something I'd like to see (though more people need to do more cards). I've had a quick nose on the web, and it seems there are plenty of places that print custom postcards (the average price for 500 is about 137 dollars), but I couldn't find any that do postcard books. I suppose the binding bit would have to be done by a diff. company. More research required, I'll ask around....

And you lot, out there - do more bloody cards! All you've got to do is make a piccy on a rectangle. Cyuh!

I really enjoy making collage art stuff. I often make cards, but sometimes I'll make a picture frame or box. it's really fun, and sometimes you end up with something really nice.

I really like this thread

You need to do the following:

1. Save your image to your hard drive as a JPEG or GIF. You can do this with Photoshop, Paintshop Pro etc.

2. Sign up with a free image hosting website like Village Photos

3. Upload your image to their web server

4. Copy the URL of your chosen image from the site you've uploaded it to (Village Photos provides the appropriate URL by clicking on a link under your image)

5. Use html as explained here by Mordant Carnival (3rd post down) to insert image into your Barbelith post:

How to post an image and other useful stuff

Apologies if you know this already and you're talking about some other "it won't work" type hassle!
