I can't justify my position very well, but I really liked their bighitsingle 'Big Sur'. Derivative and retrogressive as hell of course, but goddamnit, it was great summertime radio guitar pop with a catchy chorus, and sometimes that's all you need..
Oh, and crucially it was derivative of really good stuff, like, hmm.. let's see.. Buffalo Springfield? The Byrds? Teenage Fanclub? Big Star? Hard to go wrong with source material like that.
I heard another record by them on the radio the other day and didn't think much of it though.. |
