Jenny Everywhere in "Holiday Pandemonium"

Finally I join the ranks of Jenny Everywhere creators! This is truly the happiest moment of my life This is a tale with minimum shifting. Jenny's on vacation and she's looking for love in all the wrong places. Loosely inspired by Blur, Shakespeare, and Sypha Nadon's Pan evocation.

Here it is:Holiday Pandemonium

Not had chance to read it properly yet, Imp, but it looks good from first glance. You had to go and join that stupid club, didn't you?

A very fun tale! I liked the "Illyria" reference - but where's the Blur influence, pray tell?

I love that Jenny is a bit of an asshole --and I mean that in the nicest possible way-- in this story.

I also really like that Drew's not a shrinking violet. "Oh, so it's prison rules now, is it? What are you some sort of hetero-poof?" And Jenny's reply is priceless.

I was a little worried about the lettering. It's fine in printed form, but a bit hard to read onscreen. I've been meaning to ask questions about lettering & the art thereof, if anyone wants to jump in...

the blur influence is 'following the herds/down to greece/ on holiday'

nice one imp, enjoyed that one a lot

The lettering on this story is a tiny bit small and therefore a little difficult to read; you kinda have to squint for some of the word balloons. Can it be scanned at something like 10% larger? Just a thought.

Imp's original scans were larger, only I had to make them smaller to fit on screen. I'm trying to keep the comics so that they fit on a 800 x 600 monitor --that is, to keep people from having to scroll from side-to-side on a single page. Plus I need to leave a little bit of room for the navigation text. So it's pretty limited what I can do, unfortunately.

Although --don't kill me, imp-- it seems to me that there's room to make your lettering larger within the existing balloons.

Glad, you guys are liking it. Yeah, I noticed that it's a bit hard to read. I'll let my artist know. Also I found a few typos which I also want to take care of.

And about Jenny being an asshole... yeah, I like that too, nobody's always nice.

RE: Lettering - Speaking from experience, the small lettering is an easy mistake to make if you're not cognizant of the limitations of Internet viewing. I did the same thing with MRS. ZIRMA. In that instance, I used a 10 font, which I have used on other projects, and it is not pleasing to the eye on the Internet. Is there any way for an Internet application to zoom in?

If you can, definitely correct the font size and mis-spellings. If wish I could go back and change it on MRS. ZIRMA.

Overall, I thought it was a fun story. I'll be honest and admit that I like the non-thin Jenny style but I liked the art and character styles. Thought the gender bending was a nice touch. But probably the big thing is that Jenny is starting to develop a personality. Nice job.

Actually given the number of projects he's got nearing slouching towards birth, I think Imp is about surge into position as the creator with the largest body of completed Jenny work.

Did I imagine that someone had posted a comment about this story providing a counter to the comment that she suffers from committee-designed political correctness when I looked at this thread last night?

I enjoyed this though. I do like the fact that Jenny isn't super-cool and desirable the whole time. In fact she reminded me a bit of some of those annoyingly insistent characters we get on UK sitcoms. I'm interested - do you write the same character in all of your Jenny stories? I can definitely imagine the version of her in our story shifting off to that same holiday, but also I can see why you approached an artist with a more overtly cartoony style for this one.

Nice work bud.

I thanked God that somebody had made Jenny Everywhere slim in the thread in the Creation, which you may be thinking of. Although on reflection I think I misspoke. What I meant of course was "possessed of the belly of a twelve-year-old, the hips and breasts of Britney Spears and the waist of a Victorian governess". That is to say, not slim but attractive.

Don't get me wrong. I like fat chicks as much as anyone, but we've already established that Jenny Everywhere can be anywhere, any time. Why can't she be good-looking as well?

Nah, that was me. I felt that I had used over-salty language & in any case I was just in a feisty mood, not a fighting mood. You have summarized nicely, without the swear words.

The only thing that really rubbed me up the wrong way was jenny's g-string outside of her trousers thing - which is clearly one of those my jenny wouldn't do that things.

Eeeeeeeenteresting.

The differences in Jenny's appearance, personality, and habits from what we've seen previously may seem a little jarring, bt that's what makes Jenny truly open source character, rather than merely public domain: she changes as she passes from hand to hand, each customizing her as s/he sees fit, with those changes available to be used or ignored by subsequent users.

As jack says - interesting -

Its stated on the website that jenny everywhere is open source but its probably worth mentioning on the website that everything else (the strips and all the characters that are not jenny) are owned by their creators unless otherwise stated...

unless i have it really wrong that is...

She also changes in my hands as I try never to write the same Jenny twice... although, she does tend to have a similar voice in all of mine.

I don't really know much about Jenny Everywhere but I liked the comic quite a bit (and I'm not just saying that because my Pan invocation was listed as one of the influences). It was well-written and I liked the artwork a lot. The story had an interesting post-Shakespeare vibe that worked quite well, I thought. That Drew guy was pretty hot...

Awesome comic, guys. Good looking and fun. I'm still giggling over "Want to see something sexy? I'm wearing snoopy panties!"

So busy have I been bemoaning Jenny's gradual dismissal of pies over in The Creation, I neglected to mention how much I enjoyed this. Full of great lines and happenings, like all of imp's (extremely diverse) scripts. I'm glad you're on the case, Mr Lad; you're enriching the Shifterverse significantly and prolifically.

Yay! A story where the artwork makes Jenny look like every other female in comics ever! Maybe she could get a uniform as well, bright primary colours, shoulder pads, high heeled boots, and no-one calls her Jenny anymore, she's just 'The Shifter'.

Apart from that, I liked the story and the artwork. It reminded me of the short story 'Hermaphrodite' by Melanie Fletcher, collected in (amongst other places) 'Crossing the Border' which follows a similar line with the Greek Gods.
