Any of our ladies want to help our colonial cousins?

Just got this from a friend on the Getcrafty list, sounds worthwhile and a good excuse to get knitting. anyone else up for it? we could do them a barbe-parcel...

And a friend/glitterati is thining of starting a UK-based version....

*******************************

Time to break out the fleece, wool, sewing machine, crochet hook,
knitting needles and loom... The Glitterati at Getcrafty.com invite you to join us in creating beautiful scarves to donate to the (now annual!)
Glitter Holiday Scarf Drive.

Last year we collected over 100 gorgeous handmade scarves by crafty people from all over the world - Glitterati and non-Glitterati, young and
old, individuals and groups. Pics here:

The scarves were donated to two programs serving women in need: TLC (women & mothers with mental illness) and Sanctuary For Families (a haven for abused women/mothers and their children). Ideas for Organizations in the NYC area are most welcome.

Please volunteer some time and energy to creating beautiful scarf(s) to keep a woman warm and happy this winter:

1. Please make sure the scarf is adult-sized
2. Please add a hangtag/giftag/notecard stating the fiber content and a little note from the crafter
3. Please roll or fold the scarf and tie it with ribbon or yarn (see pics on above mentioned page). Do not giftwrap - the women should be able to see the colors/textures and choose accordingly, but the scarves do need to be bundled up.

Send to:

**Scarves must be received by December 10, 2003.**

I've been promised a few knitting lessons from my mammy this week. If I get the hang of it, I'll definitely send one. Do you know if theres anywhere in the UK doing the same thing?

This has got me all inspired, and think I'll see about volunteering for an oxfam shop of something. There, I can knit to my hearts content. Or paint them glasses or something. This is all very lovely BiP

I think I've got some spare yarn. I'll see what I can knock out with my crochet hook of justice.

bop, the friend who sent me this (who's on the getcrafty list, a place of joy for all crafy types) has cast about (hoho)for a uk-based version and can't find one.

so she's thinking of setting one up. i'll post details here if/when she sorts it out.

it's a great idea isn't it? the idea is that while not nearly enough, there are all sorts of toy drives for kids, and its nice for women in these situations to get a useful gift.

It is rather lovely. I like filling the shoeboxes too; its like filling stockings. And i love stockings. Im feeling so charitable tonight.

I'll dig out my crappy old loom next time I'm at home... the results may not be any good for the project, but it might be fun (having said this my current record on completing creative projects in time is pretty rubbish, just ask Saxy)

I think as long as it's warm, and pretty, it needn't be a work of art.

I hope not, anyway...
