FUCK!!! Why did nobody tell me this was coming out? I saw it in a shop yesterday when I was FAR too skint to even consider buying anything... but I just had to.

And man, it's ace. Maynard's vocals just get better and better... here they're more like his hallucinatory mantras on Tool's "Lateralus" than the first APC album...

And yes, this is an album made by a bunch of people who've listened to The Cure. A lot. Which is, in my opinion, A Good Thing.

Standout track- "Noose". Not sure if I'm reading too much of myself into it, but, coupled with the album title, it makes me think of a recent meeting I had with an old drinking buddy who'd gone the AA route, and was much healthier and happier, but a bit... weird.

Overall, it's less immediately catchy and (ulp) "poppy" than Mer de Noms... but after a few listens, it's got under my skin like few albums since MdN have.

They're back! And they're fucking brilliant! And there was me thinking that MdN was just a one-off treasure...

Oo, Stoats, I saw this when dipping into Music for a moment. Why didn't we know this was coming? I too was quite taken with what someone has called FemTool. I hope and can't wait to see if these kidz make something more of what they started.

Not gonna commit to more specifics til I relisten some.

You Rock.

Sounds promising.

All in all its one pretty good album. I have to say I was a little disapointed with the first single, but on the whole it redeemed itself. The standout track of the album has to be the cover of Falure's "The Nurse Who Loved Me". Simply Amazing.

Is it just me that finds APC a bit dull? I bought MdN when it was released, but it only kept my attention for about 5 minutes. I then made the mistake of going to see them, and they were a bit dull.

I'm another one who didn't know this was coming out, but I don't think I care. I liked half of the first album but this seems to be just the worst sort of dirge.
Oh well, I'll give it a few more listens on the word of the Stoat.
I like that from now on it's what's the word on the Stoat.

Nah, DiG, I bought 'Mer de Noms' in a German supermarket (Deutschland is just the best place for buying metal/industrial stuff innit?) and really liked a coupla tracks (3 & 7? Can't remember.) but the rest didn't grab me.

I love Tool, but.

I lovethealbum, and think it's the best of the year.

My favorites:The Noose,Vanishing,Blue, and I also like Pet. I think it's unneeded to have Crimes, and The Nurse Who Loved Me on there though. Wish Crimes was a full song, and I don't prefer covers to be on albums (more as bsides or movie soundtracks)

I waited patiently for this albulm for a long long time and I have to say that although it wasn't as good an albulm as "Mer de Noms", but that albulm was made over the course of about 10 years so it's fairly understandable.

I think "The Noose" has to be the best song on there....it's just an amazing song, and "The Nurse Who Loved Me" was done well, but it's not their song, so it's hard to feel it's as real as the others.

after reading all your posts I had zero expectations, so now that I listened to the record, i am pleasantly surprised... I think it's very good. especially the track "Pet" is awesome.
I dont know if it will hold up for a long time though, we'll see...

An observation, which is in no way any sort of evaluation of the album or the group, as I've not yet heard 13th Step:

Looking at the cover of 13th Step at the Times Square Virgin Megastore, I noticed that among the band members listed was James Iha, formerly of Smashing Pumpkins. SP is one of my favorite bands ever, as is Tool (and APC by extension). I found Iha's induction into APC especially amusing, since APC's former bassist, Paz Lenchantin (who, on top of being a superb bassist, is a smokin' hot babe), became the bassist for Billy Corgan's now sadly defunct project Zwan. Did Billy Corgan swap band members with Maynard James Keenan or Billy Howerdell? Just goes to show that the music industry is one incestuous biz, perhaps only eclipsed by that of the comics industry.
