nice one.

though I thought it could have done with packing a bit more of a punch.. a bit too short on the atrocity images to really make an impact on anyone who's mind isn't already made up - now if they'd put in a few more gratuitous shots of sweatshops/3rd world poverty - bang.

Yeah, that's what I thought actually. It's a bit too subtle. But a good try nevertheless.

Interesting potential crossover with the Music forum here - this is the video for the single 'Consumption' by a guy called Toby Slater (he's got quite an interesting website), and apparently it's already being played on John Peel (and probably XFM as well, it sounds right up their poopchute).

What do people think are the merits and limitations of this kind of political/protest music? On the one hand, I'm sure there will be cynical accusations of opportunism/simplification from some quarters - then again, at least he's doing something...

I think this could work in quite an interesting manner: the song itself is catchy, stright-up, vaguely 'alternative' rock, so couple that with what should be a very effective method of spreading publicity via the net, and this might be something of a cult hit. Question is, is it bringing the issues to a wider audience in an accessible way, or just using them as a means to denote 'angst-fuelled rebellion'?

I can't hear the song, not having a soundcard.
What's it like? Any good? Any interesting lyrics or anything? (I had it in my head Toby Slater was some kind of techno guy, rather than 'alternative rock', but maybe I'm confusing him with someone else).
