Hi. I hope I am not being too presumptuous by starting this thread. I felt it was a companion to the other thread mentioned in the abstract but not really material for that thread.

I was thinking that there are many of you out and about all over the world. This could be a potential goldmine for people on the search.

For instance I have been looking for a few issues of GrimJack to have a complete set. The issues are: 2, 9, 14, 58, and if there are any issues that came out after 81 then I am looking for those too. If any of you have these or know where I might be able to mail order them from please let me know.

In the meantime how can I or someone else help you look for some back issues you are missing?

Mile High Comics is a useful start:

milehighcomics.com

Just search for "GrimJack."

I would be willing to scour the local quarter bins, as that's where most of them would be.

In fact, I think this could be a good thread for people to list the cheap books they are looking for so people can dig through the quarter bins at their shops. I know I am trying to get some 2099 books, and am working on a list of the ones I want. They should be selling for cover price or less, but Mile High lists them at silly prices because, as the owner says, everyone goes there for the obscure stuff, so why not charge a lot for it.

I don't know if there was another issue after 81...there might have been a Prestige format special that came out as First was closing up shop, as they switched all of their comics that that format the last few months to try and shore up their financial position. Damn shame they went away. Through the 80's, they were the only company I bought all of the books they published.

I was wondering if anyone can help me find issues 1-4, 6-8 of BLAB!, the alternative comic magazine. Those early issues were published by Kitchen Sink Press. Specifically, I need copies of the strips written and drawn by Spain Rodriquez, so I don't even need the books, just scans or copies of the strips. Thanks to any who can help.

Does anyone know where I can find Spider-Man & Zoids 45 or any of these other ones?

Yeah! That's what I had in mind. I like being on the search and I know what is in my area more or less. So I might be able to find a book for fifty cents that someone else is looking for and I get to enjoy their search too and they get the book for cheap! And maybe the other way round.

I mean, that is in some ways what bothers me about the internet. And no offence here evskig because I appreciate the effort and time you took to help but it is too easy and too pricey to get things online. I like the real world and its shops and nooks and dusty boxes.

I would be happy to hit the local haunts with a new list in hand because they might not have what I am searching for but for you...

I hope they do.

Dan how can we arrange a sale or trade or something for that issue? Would you like to contact me by a PM with what you might have in mind? I am happy and excited to have such a quick return on my request!

Cheers all!

Oh. And not to be rude I forgot to include that I too bought several First Comics. But memory is hazy...

The Badger was super great! That was on First wasn't it?

Jon Sable, American Flagg!

Wow, that was a long time ago...

Did Grendel have a short run with First? Oh crap. That is probably a question for that other thread!

Grendle was always at Comico (says the guy with the Grendle tattoo and the Hunter Rose inspired name), until it was picked up by Dark Horse.

Other great books the First put out, and are currently sitting in quarter bins are MARS, Starslayer (with the early Grimjack as a backup) and the very under-rated series Meta-4, which, sadly, never got a chance to take off. Whisper was also through First, and might be coming back soon in Steven Grant can get it put together.

Pretty cool for a company that was created for the simple purpose of suing Marvel.

In my house.

But otherwise, no. Sorry.

Promethea shouldn't be too hard to acquire.

Solitaire, is it OK that we are off topic in talking about First comics?

I was thinking of Grendel as Whisper. They were both ninja assassin's right? I picked up a few Whispers.

I had no idea they were put together to sue Marvel. I do know that I miss Ostrander's stories and he had such huge and exciting plans for the GrimJack series and wiped out quite abrubtly. He had me hooked that's for sure.

Do you happen to know what issues of Starslayer those GJ back-ups are in? I've never seen them!

What was this about? Creator rights or something?

(Mods: feel free to create another topic for this if appropriate)

on the subject has anyone copies of MAURETANIA COMICS (specific issues... unsure off-hand which ones) or the graphic novella THE DOLPHIN? (digest-sized with glossy color cover.) an online version of THE DOLPHIN appeared as a pay-for-download and dissapeared... anyway more interested in a print version.

Ria:

I have a copy of MAURETANIA by Chris Reynolds, a graphic novel published by Penguin books during their aborted GN publishing push in the early 90s. The inside cover claims that the book was his first graphic novel and mentions MAURETANIA COMICS, but I don't know if the GN is a collection of the comics or something else entirely. Does this help at all?

Too be honest, I didn't find the style appealing but that may just be me.

Let me know if you need more information on this book.

the MAURETANIA GN has mostly new material apart from around twenty pages in the back. the GN introduced me to Chris Reynold's work and I happen to have a copy. perhaps you could go to Sequential Swap and do a trade?
