Is the t0.extreme.dm.com site tracker a new thing or have I only just noticed it because it is being very slow in responding today? Pages are taking two minutes or more to finish downloading because of it. It could be my ISP I guess, so is anyone else having problems? Who's you're ISP?

Yup, index page is a pain today, just as you describe. Everything else seems to be as before.

It's been slow all day, yes. and it's not your ISP, I don't think - it was slow for me at work too.

Slow for me too, and still slow. I got some database errors earlier on today.

Same here. I've been getting MySQL errors all over the shop for a couple of weeks now, similar to those that were popping up a while back (also getting logged out at random every now and then, although that's not happening as frequently).

(I found yesterday that if you keep hitting reload after the SQL errors log you out, it will eventually automatically log you back in)

I'm pretty sure it's because we're trying to drive it while Cal is under the hood.

Thank you, Cal. Sorry for tapping on the gas pedal right there.

This morning it was slow to the point of "I can't be arsed... I'll play games instead". Now it seems much better.

I have been finding Barbelith extremely slow to load lately. Usually it doesn't actually time out or throw up SQL errors (at least not repeatedly) but it is very slow and very frustrating. Does anyone know why this is happening?

It's been slow for me lately too, it makes me get cross with my computer and look stupid.

But isn't it just overload on the servers and nothing can be done?

yeah from what i understand the sql errors and slowness are down to barbelith's host not having the server power to deal with the amount of hits the various websites barbelith's host is having to cope with...

I was going to reply to this thread, but the page took too long to load, so I decided not to.

so was I but, again, it took so long I didn't bother either.

So do we actually know why it's being this slow or is it a mystery??? I can handle SQL errors but 10 minutes just makes me want to jump off the building. Know what I mean?

It's loading pages very slowly today (1/30/04) for me too - oftentimes timing out or taking forever and just becoming a blank page. Anyone else finding this?

The reason that Barbelith runs slowly is very rarely to do with the page tracker (although that sometimes doesn't help). The main reason Barbelith runs slowly is that the database server at pair.com is completely chock full o crap. I'm trying to get us moved to a faster server as we speak. If I can persuade them it's likely that we'll have some downtime early next week or that we'll lose a few posts in transition (ones posted in the last eight hours or so), but hopefully then the whole board will run a hell of a lot more quickly...
