Is *the shit people laugh at* a good way to understand them?

What makes certain people laugh at certain stuff? How much can you tell about a person from what they find funny?

Say you're watching a movie and you laugh at the same stuff as your date. Does this mean you guys are compatible? Say you guys hardly ever laugh at the same stuff. Does mean you might not work out?

How much does a sense of humor really say about a person? Is someone who has a "sick" sense of humor more likely to be "sick?" Is someone who has a "lame" sense of humor more likely to be "lame?" What about people who don't even laugh anymore: people that just say "that was funny" when they're amused?

Is it narcissistic for a comedian to laugh at themselves?

Oh gawd, I thought no one noticed! It's a terrible sinking, dark pit in my belly that prevents laughter. I see it, I know it is funny, but I am caught in the web of my own morbid thoughts. So, it is with a vague interest in the actual life around me I mutter, (usually deadpan), "That was funny."

It is alot like watching caroons in purgatory...err, I would imagine.

Damn, I thought no one noticed these things! Dammit Rage, now my wretched little secret is out...Now I am actually going to have to smile!

Oops...I mean (ouch - I think I pulled a facial muscle)

Observing a persons reaction to anything can tell you something about them, provided you know how to interpret the information that you're receiving.

However, I would argue that compatibility can not be easily interlinked and could only be determined on a couple by couple basis. The could be no hard and fast rule in relation to the similarity or lack thereof of a sense of humour.

I think it's got to be any kind of event which provokes an honest reaction, which tends to work best in pissing someone off until they get really angry, unfortunately then it's difficult to get them to calm down so you can continue having a rational discussion...

I think trying to judge someone on a small part of their personality, such as what they find funny, is as dangerous as trying to judge them on what they think of French cheeses. After all, a BNP member might find Al Murray the Pub Landlord funny, doesn't mean you want to sleep with him. Especially if you're me.
