It's the only chance I see for any of this to come to an end.
From what I hear from my friends in Israel, who were comfortably liberal-leftists before the current intifada, Barak-supporters and the like, there is a general recognition that ultimately the only way this can end is in the two-state solution and a complete withdrawal from the territories. It's just a matter of how many people get killed before that happens.
I think what's lacking is any leadership on the Israeli left to take this opportunity. Sharon will never do it himself, obviously. |
